JDM armrest hinge keeps popping out?

Hello - I just bought a brand new Toyota armrest to replace my 8 year old broken one. Installation was a breeze since the holes were already drilled for the old armrest. I have noticed over the past few weeks that every time I open the arm rest, the rear "hinge" pops out of its guide slot. Am I missing a part? Is there something that is supposed to keep the rear hinge captive like the front hinge? I can push it back in place while I close it, but it pops out every single time I open it. The mounting hardware is barely snug, so I don't believe it's warped or anything.

Mine did the same thing twice. Had to disassemble it the first time because the pin in the hinge got loose. The second time the hinge itself broke.

Love the armrest but the hinge seems pretty shitty. I don't have any pressure on the structure of the armrest either.

There's supposed to be some metal studs that poke out from the plastic part that hinges the two pieces together on both ends, they may have been retracted into the plastic itself.

I had this happened to me before... The solution is to take those circular covers off and undo the torq screws and push the studs back out. I then used CRAZY Glue to glue them back in place so they will NEVER retract again.

Thank you so much! I opened the top and found the loose stud unattached to anything. I put it back in place and added a few drops of super glue to keep it in place (added a few drops to the front stud too). Great solution. Thank you for your reply!

Glad it worked out! Mine is still going strong too.

Ha! I had the exact same issues when I first installed mine.

Pin was loose, but mine was actually caused by the plastic sleeve around it cracking. I ended up using a liberal amount of JB Weld plastic bonder from the inside to repair it. The other side was fine, but I added the plastic bonder there to beef it up just in case. Been solid ever since.

Yeah, they're quite finicky especially when not installed flush. If it's warped in any way the hinges don't like it and the plastics around the hinges gets put under a lot of pressure resulting in cracking. I had that issue as well. Like you, JB Weld did it's job and never had any issues since.

Looks like its a common issue with this armrest.

A bit of glue helps secure things.

Had same problem and sorted out like everyone mentioned above.
