FR-S is significantly shorter yet has a longer wheelbase. Far lighter. Better fuel economy. The 996 interior is shit. 997 is nice, though. Porsche seats are uncomfortable, at least for me. To my knowledge, no movie stars have died in an FR-S.

Really, though, it's about cost of running and maintaining a Porsche versus the joy you get for that money. The FR-S, like the Abarth, like a Fiesta ST, is a screaming bargain.
I'm already an Audi driver, probably been called that a few times

Lighter is good, but the car is also down 155-180hp comparatively. Fuel economy doesn't matter as I'd be driving it on weekends. 997 interior is much nicer than BRZ interior, even mine with $4k in interior work. Totally OK with the fact that movie stars have died in them; I find it strangely romantic.

Ehh do what you want. Do what makes you happy. If you have the means to pull off the swap, go for it. It boils down to what you want. I am going to say. All that money you dumped into the twin is not required to have fun @ the track. Sure lower lap times are fun to chase, but its a never ending spiral. Think of how much track time if you stayed NA and just put $$$ into the basic required mods. Thats my 2 cents. I would keep brz and daily drive the RS6 with gas coming way down.

Hahaha, yeah the 996 interior really is heinously bad. Like, worse than my Mk4 GTI. It's a real shame it's so shitty inside, because a 996 is a ton of car for the money. Even the 86 interior is a lot nicer than the 996's :\

Maintaining modern 911's doesn't seem like a big deal IMHO. If you can find one that's had the IMS issue addressed, you won't be looking at spending that much. Tyres will cost a decent chunk of change compared to the BRZ, and you'll use a little more gas, but I don't see any of that being a deal-breaker. If you're gonna track the car costs for the Porsche probably start to look a little more intimidating but there's no car that will be cheap to track.

I actually prefer the shorter wheelbase on the 911. When you run a 911 and a BRZ on a properly tight windy road, the 911 feels way, way more agile due to the short wheelbase and the ability to tip the rear end around the corners with trail-braking where the BRZ often wants to understeer. If you can work the weight distribution of the 911 properly it feels incredibly agile.

Spent my whole day in a 997.1 911 Turbo, and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. Decided to stop throwing money into the car, and instead invest it into a fund to pick up a used Porsche that has a better chance of appreciating vs depreciating in value lol

You get a 911, you gotta get a turbo because, otherwise, you're a pansy. Get a 911 turbo and you need to modify because why get a turbo if you're not going to turn the turbos up? And so on. The road we live on has a chip seal so tires do not last.

And Miatas are pretty cheap to run at the track.

Or, alternatively, you get a C2S or a GT3, because they're lighter, better to drive, and the sound and the throttle response is superior on a naturally aspirated engine.

As for 996 Turbo, spent most of my afternoon researching and watching videos on it. The interior sucks but I've seen a few things spruce it up such as Recaro seats (got a nice Profi SPG that I could swap from my MR2 into the Porsche) and carbon fiber or stainless steel trim so reduce the plasticky-ness. I haaaate the blob headlights but the wide rear arches and big air ducts and rear intercooler vents help make up for it. Also the engine and driveline are stout; eventually (with enough time and money), one could have 850bhp without cracking the engine or replacing driveline components (except the clutch, of course).

But really, the ONLY 996 to get is the GT2 because it's called the Widowmaker and everything else is for pansies. And it'll appreciate and it's fucking insane, they say.

But really, you can't have that much fun in a car trying to kill you unless you're on the track. Which is why you're back to the FR-S again.
