No middle name is almost as difficult in the same forms.

When it was time to name her they gave a first name and then said "OK so she has to have the name of both grandmothers, the family patron saint, the godmother, the doctor's wife, the lady at the gift shop from the hospital, the paperboy's mother, that woman that nodded to me on the bus once, my cat from 20 years ago and some random middle name all of her own" She ultimately just picked one for official purposes.

Not to mention that the two letter name actually has a meaning in English!

Ultimately I believe we're discussing education versus experience. I believe that adequate experience can compensate for formal education. When talking entry level positions where experience is not present, education is much more important. As for the whole surgery versus IT thing, comparing the two is false equivalency at best. Not to mention it would be impossible due to licensing requirements in many countries. A more accurate comparison would be if I would let someone with a documented history of expertise diagnose an engine problem if he didn't have a degree, and the answer is yes. Ho. |

It's not that I don't like the purpose of it, but the execution of it sucks since mainstream/typical systems aren't built for it.

So does she. First name. The rest of her names look like the credits to a movies scrolling past.
Like I said she just picked one of them and ran with it for the middle.

As someone who works on systems that take in strings of characters, it really bothers me that use cases like 2 letter names aren't accepted. Just because you (the developer or product manager) haven't seen it doesn't mean it shouldn't be an acceptable input.

Exactly... so those time, I use space or “!”. Best one is, credit card company thought it was an initial, so they put periods.

Reminds me of the time one of my payroll loads at work failed because we got a new doctor with the most ridiculously long last name. I had all the tables set at 40 characters max for last name. Took me a couple days to change all the tables and ssis packages.

One of my buddies has a really long last name, also has 6 consonants in a row in the middle. I don't think it is possible to spell by sounding it out.

Look it this way, adding my first & last name, I can make a phone number. That even excluding area code! lol
