Just finished the 3rd episode of "James May Our Man in Japan"

Quite good. Enough serious history to feel intelligent, and just a touch of subtle grade school humor to remind me I'm not.

Definitely recommended.

It should be like quadruple redundant. The ATC instruction, the read back from the pilot not taxiing, the briefing from the pilot taxiing to the pilot not taxiing and his confirmation of it, not to mention an airport like JFK has flashing red lights that warn you not to cross as well...

(Unless the controller did clear them to cross..) Although if they read back the wrong thing the controller should have caught that too..
I downloaded the half hour segment. Exchange was clear controller says "hold short," pilot confirms. Long pause and you heard what they showed on the story.

Pilot was full of shit. He agreed to sit still.

Ohhh thanks for the reminder to try it. My coworker had mentioned it to me earlier this week.

The first episode is pretty great! Especially having just been there in the past year. A lot of the cultural stuff is so familiar to me and makes me a bit nostalgic.

It took him 5 weeks.

Ain’t no kill like overkill

A lot of old school tradesmen I know are like this. And as unnecessary as it is sometimes, I greatly appreciate it.

Yeah 3:45 or so... I mean everyone makes mistakes but two pilots and this was a major carrier too. At least nobody died.

Process process process! I hope the cockpit crew learned their lesson. Could've been much much worse.

It's a crazy hectic scene. That it doesn't break down more often than it does is a testament to how well you guys stay on top of your game.

so, the place I interviewed with and was selected for called my current employer. Just looked through my work email from the past week and the head of the department I was looking to move to reached out to me. He mentioned he’s still super interested in having me join them and added in a tantalizing bit of “tentative Team Lead opening” that he’d like me for.

I wonder if it’s because they know I’m thinking of leaving, or if it’s because they genuinely want me on board.

On one hand, I have a known quantity where I have seniority, and on the other, total unknown and starting from scratch

Guess I have a few meetings to attend this week.

I'm renting a 2020 4Runner right now because I had shoulder surgery & can't drive a stick right now and let me tell you this thing sucks. rides very much like a truck so that can be a plus or minus depending on what you like. it has no torque what so ever. sure it'll get up to speed but it sure doesn't feel like it's accelerating at all. info-tanment sucks. the BRZ is light years better by comparison. it feels tight in there. I know it's bigger than the BRZ but it sure doesn't feel like it.

I honestly don't understand how someone could drive one and pick it over an Explorer or Acadia.
