I think this post will help everyone if we can get a simple and best way to clean the snow off our cars in the winter months without developing scratches and fine swirl marks from using that nasty brush

First step, get a higher quality SOFT brush. The cheaper ones have very stiff bristles, get one with softer fuzzy bristles.

Hot water (if you are near a source). This is what I did often when I was in college and needed to drive somewhere in the snow. I went to school in rochester ny and it snowed like crazy 6+ monthes of the year.

Are you talking about the windshield or cars body? If you are talking about body panels, my suggestion is to never touch any part of the body with anything abrasive, period. I would let it come off naturally. Now the windshield is obviously a different story.

Its unfair to other motorists to take off with a ton of snow on your roof. Actually its illegal in some jurisdictions.

Just check out different snow brushes and buy one with softer tips if you're concerned.

Where is it illegal to drive with snow on your roof?

Using a brush to remove snow from your vehicle in any manner is a recipe for paint disaster. Your surface is most likely dirty and the brush is abrasive (no matter how soft).

NJ it is illegal. It is very dangerous when cars don't clean the roof. Sure our cars are tiny but think of SUV owners that have an area the size of our whole car as a roof. Once they hit highway speeds chunks fly off, not to mention if it has been there some time there may be ice in it.

It really isn't that hard just use a brush but don't go all the way to the surface. If you are driving your baby in shit weather try not to be so worried about a few swirls. You are introducing worse by driving on slush, salt, ice, snow, broken pavement.

I never heard such a thing. That's gotta make it pretty tough at times. Especially when it comes time to remove it.

Wow guys I guess that living in SoCal has its perks.

Understood about following the law and scraping off snow and ice but the paint will surely suffer. Rubbing snow and ice into your paint is like rubbing hard sand paper all over it. I just used a clay bar on my brand new BRZ and it needed it I can't imagine under those conditions for a car like the BRZ .

Nice, I also went to RIT. Class of '05, BS in Applied Mathematics from the Golisano College of Science. (I think I remembered the name right)
