With first hand experience on what Shiv was able to do with my BMW 335, I'm now even more excited about this ESC (if that is possible)

Got your PM. Glad to hear from you again! The ball is rolling. Hopefully will be able to meet up with Gary in NJ this weekend to check out his electric SC set-up. And hope to test one in our own car soon as well. Of course, we will develop maps and release them to the public if we get to that point

I thought I might share some of the details from my installation yesterday.
I wanted a stealth look for the indicator/arm switch. Also, I HATE the passenger warning. So I covered the passenger warning with the arm button. First I marked with a sharpie where I wanted the wire to pass through the radio radio surround. I then drilled three 1/8" holes and opened them up with a knife: I opened the back of the indicator to see if there was a possibility to have the wire exit from the top of the box...there wasn't much room in there so I went to plan B. I put three drops of crazy glue on the outside of the unit and attached the wire to the unit. Here's how it looks from an angle that you'll never see: And here's how it looks to me...the only person that matters. While I was in there I secured the wires for the throttle switch: The easiest way to route the wires behind the instrument panel is to lower the glove box. This gives much better access to the VERY small passageways behind the IP. To lower the glove box there are two tabs on the side. Simply press them in and lower the box. Here is a shot of what you'll see (wires secured too)

Gary in NJ.... That's a great spot, but I don't like the wire going around the side like that.
I wonder if the front of the switch can be flipped so the wire would be on the top? Rob?????? |

The wires that enter the indicator are soldered to the switch and the circuit board. I felt if I tried to relocate the wire within the unit that one of those connections might not survive to move. Since there are so few "extra" components of this system in existence I felt it was better to tack 'em to the outside then risk rendering the system inoperable.

In other news: The advanced monitor's ready for installation into my car. I'll make a video tomorrow of it operating on the bench for one last time before I try it in the real deal.
I've posted the circuit design and software under the Apache 2.0 open source license to my GitHub page: https://github.com/jcjones/phantom-s...vanced-monitor. If you want to build your own, please note that I have errata listed for the current Fritzing diagram, and that I do plan to layout a PCB for manufacture at some later date. |

And here's the video. I hope to have some time this weekend to install it and see how it really performs!

And here's the system installed and working! I'll have to watch it closely for the next week to make sure everything's OK.

Note that it wasn't a long drive, so I expect much higher than that in real operation. |

Very nice. What are you using for a controller? These days Arduino, Beagle Board or Raspberry Pi make sense if you can get them configured for the task. Gotta get some programming done, a whole other learning set.
I was looking into controller boards for custom pinball machines but electronics is completely self taught for me and the task of creating the programming was daunting. Incidently most of my pinball machines were used to raise funds for the FRS.

It's built on top of an Arduino Uno and the Adafruit Logging Shield, though I am going to look closely at laying it out in Eagle from straight components. |
