AWE looks amazing until I found out the touring is 96dB loud. Explains why it sounds really good lol.

Speaking of HKS Legamax, it ticks all the boxes but it only comes with Ti tips, which look stupid on a red car. Greddy’s new axleback is the same deal.

CSG’s touring86 exhaust looks good but I’ve read it’s really quiet with stock everything else, also not wild about the single wall tips.

Last gen Greddy SP is a contender, ticks all the boxes for me. Full size angled muffler for aero, double wall tips, not too quiet/loud
fujitsubo A-R is pretty much on par with what you are looking for if you can deal with single wall tips. not a full size muffler but its not empty under there. definitely fills up the exhaust cavity quite a bit

I thought about the sti for a while, but reports are that it’s very quiet

Going to pull the trigger on this axle-back soon. Seems to have a similar tone and volume of the old STI muffler, and from a factory backed race team working with an OEM manufacturer.

Not sure if this has been shared yet. One of the prettier exhaust designs with Helmholtz chambers on each side. They sell an aftermarket diffuser to cover the gap where the stock mufflers used to be.

Recommendations for a well made subtle exhaust which has moderate pops and bangs?

subtle and pops and bangs dont go together

also pops and bangs is solely based off of engine tuning, which is why you hear factory bmw's pop n bang with a stock exhaust in their "sport" modes.

less exhaust restriction will increase the volume of the pops n bangs, but with less restriction comes louder volume

this car wont pop n bang on decel with a factory tune. If you downshift just right with a manual car, you can get a pop or two even with the stock exhaust(although its heavily muffled)

catless headers and a catless frontpipe will increase the "strength" of said pops n bangs and may add a few into the mix at random areas in the rpm range. your cats are the most restrictive parts of the exhaust system, followed by the rear most muffler

That’s where I am leaning too. Have heard good things about it from a friend with a gr86. Also has nice pops and bangs sometimes.

I know the AWE touring is not subtle but it seems to do the pops and bangs very well.

If you do get it, let me know, since we're both in the Bay Area you can take the track conversion kit that I got from AWE. They gave it to me free as I had ordered and was going to do comparisons with dB reading but I ended up cancelling my order, they posted their dB reading and was too loud for me now.

Yeah I just saw the DB readings too. 96 DB kills it for me

What are you getting instead?
