For the cost of the swap and the donor car, you can buy a brand new Cayman with PDK.

If you're going to swap it with something crazy like this... you should just go LSX/4L60E. Electronically controlled trans, but might a bit rough getting it in due to it's size.

LSX w/ 4L60E would feel amazing and provide good cruising MPG.

I have a feeling to get an 80 in you may need to rebuild the tunnel, but I feel it would be worth it over the 60. You can build the 60 to deal with the power but you will have to refresh it more often.

This topic is of interest to me, provided it doesn't veer too far off course or go down in flames (I'm not holding my breath to see which one happens first). I'm not considering swapping the FR-S, but down the line I'll need a good auto to go in something else that will get a shiny, new engine. I'd prefer an auto that operates just like the FR-S flappy paddle, but all the research I've done thus far makes it look like nothing operates quite the same way.

Good luck! Your success benefits me. Sorry I can't actually answer the question.

No real reason not to. 4L80's only a few hundred more when buying a new trans.

Just know it's a bit bigger then the 4L60E and also about 100lbs edit: heavier, accidentally wrote lighter. (may not be on the dot, I didn't look up the exact weights)

I'm just personally an automatic ONLY kind of driver. Standards make me nauseous and personally seem out dated to me. Kind of like matches vs lighters, just not my thing.

Would love an automatic LS1 to scoot around in, no dealing with clutch and manual shifting.
ROFL if you think just because it's a kit it's gonna be a breeze then good luck with that, be prepared to pay 2x the price of the kit to get all necessary small parts, labour, fabrication and be ready for tons of headaches along the way.

If you aren't mechanically inclined, even with a kit you'll have to enlist professional installation which will be another several thousands.

And why oh why would you want a v6 in there, if you want a 6 cyl at least drop an inline in there.

see the problem with most of these threads and why they become flame wars is that the OP's are never knowledgeable guys with experience and an established plan coming in and sharing their project with us. It's always the hey guys I heard there was a swap kit so if they made a ls1 kit they surely make one for every other engine right? also since it's a kit it will cost only the price of the kit and not anything else right? It's a kit so it's drop in no fab work required no?

If the people starting these threads had actually done some research and at least knew a bit about what they were planning to swap for, what their goals are, their budget, etc. As it stands they mostly are in the same category as I'm gonna put a CAI in my civic and gain 50hp crowd.

I mean before buying my brz I was considering a swap for my lexus is300, I had it down to 2 engines, had established most of the supporting/fabrication parts (was a 2 page list of parts with prices and where to buy them as well as some quotes from shops around my area for the work I couldn't do myself, was around 10k Canadian for parts and most of the labor if I shopped my parts around and wasn't pressed in time for my part fab) needed to complete the work as well as an estimate on labor costs and tons of info on the swap process.

If these guys had half of the info I mentioned above then these threads wouldn't turn into giant flame sessions
