Reminds me of the Simpsons Tomacco episode where Homer fused a Tomato plant and tobacco seeds.

It tasted nasty and like cigarette butts....but they couldnt stop eating it and they needed to eat more.

so theres something about the Subaru engines that make people come back for more Subaru boxerness....even if they hate them.

I've had a 2013 Scion FRS and now a 2022 GR86 so I can speak from experience.
While the FRS was a good looking car with decent performance (especially chassis and overall balance), the GR86 takes it to a whole new level. To me, the approach from FRS to GT86 to GR86 is what Porsche has done with the 911. Substantial improvement with each iteration. I like that approach because it allows designers and engineers to really finetune a car to its best possible version.

The GR86 stock is pretty good. But with a few mods like mine (springs, spacers, exhaust, badging), it really becomes a super enjoyable car. Baby Porsche on a budget.

I just did my own GR86 tribute video this week-end. I wanted to capture and share my mods in a short clip and slap on top the electric music I make (Supernova 49).

Nice vid, but you need exhaust sound to make it pop. Even if it’s lower than the music.

When and if I get a GR86, I'm going to rebadge it as a Scion.

I think it's because I still have it, and I still like it.

The first gen FRS/86 is my favorite. The smooth style of the OG has been skipped over by the new Honda look, and Tesla influence.

14 FRS, boosted daily.

Engine failure in the 22+?

I’m seeing this in the media and on here. Would this be another reason to stick to the first gen or is the issue overblown?

Not sure they know yet for sure, I believe it will be overblown, but still some concern.

Overblown. There are thousands over 2nd gens driving everyday just fine, including track use. The failure rate is less than 1%, but if you judge based solely on the internet, you'd think this were a Red Ring of Death scenario. If the failures were that prevalent I wouldn't have been watching this guy pump out GR86 track videos left and right for the past year or so.

Considering the hilarious amount of rod knocked first gens i think there's just no way to win here. I just wish Subaru had made a better engine, it takes away some of the fun having to be worried about the engine giving up.
