best clutch for daily driver on JDL Turbo Kit
Hi All,
So I just ordered the JDL turbo kit and was wondering what ya'll would recommend for a clutch and flywheel and TOB once boosted for a daily driver. I don't plan on pushing anything more than 300 to the wheels and similarly not looking to push over 300 on torque numbers. Neal at the Racers Line recommended the ACT clutch kit, wondering if anyone has any other suggestions especially since I'll be daily driving it. I'm in the South Bay in CA, I take my car up to SF if that makes anything different but hah not afraid of those big hills. Looking forward to what people have to say. Best, Aakash |

Avoid ACT like the plague.
Too many stories of problems to be a coincidence IMO. South Bend stage 2 or something similar. Go by actual TQ ratting NOT "Stage" numbers. OEM revised TOB Leave the flywheel alone unless it needs to be replaced, then just get OEM or similar. I'd swap out the clutch for while in there with an upgraded one. |

I had the Exedy Stage 1(unknown rating), which held about 330whp and 250wtq, never slipped. I now have South bend stage 3 daily(rated to 400ft lbs) and it drives identically- if you want to future proof yourself, get southbend. If you trust you won't be going deep into the 200s with wtq, Exedy Stage 1 would be ideal

Install the ACT with an OS Giken tool or similar, and torque slowly in a star pattern, and you won't have any issues. Also, don't be lazy and just shove the transmission on. This can warp the clutch disc. |

Probably best to have a clutch that slips before the torque level that shreds the transmission; ie, don’t have the transmission be the weakest link. For the street, my Exedy stage 1 is pretty close to stock and has held a bar of boost.

I'm about to install my turbo kit over the course of the winter and I am nearing 60k miles so I think a clutch install is in my immediate future. Also wondering why people use the southbend stage 2 if the stage 1 is rated for 295lb ft?

yes, but even at the wheels you're likely talking about it holding 250-260lb ft which is farther than most push with a turbo kit/supercharger kit with 220-230lb/ft seeming to be the sweet spot for engine longevity.
