Or it was simply a mistake partially created because Florida's Health Department is not forwarding information daily to the CDC.

State officials are accusing the CDC of incorrectly tabulating and releasing COVID case numbers for Florida -- confusion that could have been mitigated if the Florida Department of Health resumed its daily COVID reporting, instead of issuing a weekly summary.

A spokesperson for Governor DeSantis told CBS12 News the CDC incorrectly took a report from Florida and divided the figure between two days, when it should have been spread out over three.

"I think a defensive tweet from the Florida Department of Health is somewhat embarrassing when in fact they made this problem," Dr. Forman said. "The CDC may have made a mistake, but they made the problem."

Yeah, I mean if the CDC is going to make up numbers to scare people then they could make up wildly inaccurate numbers all day long, but obviously, the states or other reporting entities will be challenging those numbers, so I can't really see this as a successful tactic, even though there is no evidence that I have seen suggesting such a strategy even exists at the CDC. Moreover, in a tit-for-tat, someone could equally imagine a conspiracy theory that Florida's Health Department is intentionally being indirect with their reporting to create these types of problems or create doubt in the reporting system instead of just reporting each day.

Bias affects the desire for due diligence. As many times as it has bitten me in the past, I still jump for joy when I seem to have a eureka moment in solving a problem.

When it doesn't go my way, I double down to find the reason. Quality control costs real money. We all need a second pair of skeptical eyes to check our work.

Well, it is more likely tend lines will be followed, so to err on the downside would be to suggest numbers suddenly fell, which isn't likely given the upward trend. It is more likely trends will continue, or they will jump up, or they will slowly level off. This fact lends itself to self-correction; errors that seem to fit don't get caught, and errors that seem out of place get caught.

Underreporting is actually quite prevalent, intentionally and non-intentionally, so it happens on both sides of the curve.

Funny, it would all be more clear if states like Florida would simply stop trying to hide the correct number of cases. I wonder why they continue to do that? Their deliberately haphazard reporting process is "engineered" to cause confusion. Could it be that confusion/obfuscation is their intent?

Federalism continues to bite us in the ass.

at this point, i would like to remind everyone that in the 'future' of every movie, the entire globe comes together under a single governmental entity, and we all agree on policy.

we're on track to do that, right?

Utopian vs dystopian futures...dystopian is much more common in movies.

If we can stabilize the population, if we can move to a sustainable future, and if we can survive AI, then in all likelihood, on a long enough timeline, we would likely continue to mix races until we all looked to be of one race like aliens do in Star Trek, and we would likely merge our politics and governments into a single set of universal values. If we actually compare the world now to any point in history then we are most definitely on this path.
