I agree, less of an increase than I was anticipating.

One interesting thing I picked up from all their pics is they seem to use the ep3 idler and stock tensioner setup as opposed to the idler kit they sell(which spaces out the alternator).

The numbers that are out there for what our engine weigh...

For those that don't know, these guys make the "K Miata" kits in the Miata world and they know what they're doing. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind this kit will be of the highest quality. Not to mention, 17+ FA20's sell for $3,000+ while you can pick up a decent K24 for like $600 lol
The numbers that are out there for what our engine weighs are WAY high. I weighed my engine without a/c, or alternator and with no fluids, and it was only like 240 lbs, I highly doubt that fluids and a/c compressor and alternator are 200+ lbs.

Jaden

p.s. I weighed it a while back now, but I can go out and weigh it again if you want an exact number.

I don't want to speak for K Miata, but like I'm pretty sure they weighed the FA20 before and after when they developed this kit. Maybe they can chime in

Remember, the kit includes an aluminum driveshaft, catless header/frontpipe, lightweight flywheel, ditches the intake box, replaces the TOB and clutch slave for a hydraulic system, etc.

Also, the K24 will have slightly less weight in the swap form besides what I mentioned. The intake is probably lighter. There are probably less hoses. The RSX Type S oil pump is smaller and lighter. The power steering pump is replaced for a pulley.

FA20 with transmission is 480lbs. The K24 and transmission is 413lbs. The FA20 has a large bellhousing and shift linkage, but the 6speed for k series has a LSD at times or regular differential. The K series transmission is a bit stronger too.

Like I have said before, add some lightweight components to the 86, and the gap will close to within 50-70 pounds, but there should still be some savings.

I noticed in this picture that they welded in a bung to the back after pulling the breather. K-Motor makes a -10AN fitting that presses into the breather once it is pulled, so welding isn’t necessary, but that appears to have been short lived. There isn’t much room back there. In the more finalized shot, they are using a banjo bolt to what appears to be a bulkhead adapter. These are simply installed by drilling a hole and sandwiching a bolt with a screw, and then the banjo bolt bolts in to the female bung. No welding required. I’m assuming the rear breather would get capped, cut shorter and capped, or it would be replaced by a plug.

I saw Taylor Ray use these on this k24 swap and plug the stock port.

I know this is far from apples to apples, but in a "racecar" build you can save a lot of weight that you dont in a street vehicle. Im thinking that a kswap done in a similar fashing to what I did for my LS swap would weight around 2200-2300lbs, depending on added weight of things like a cage, aero devices, wheels and tires (small or big), big brakes, you get the idea.

For comparisons sake, my car weights exactly 2600lbs with around 8 gallons of fuel and a full cage. But this was a "strip to bare metal and build back up" kind of build. Nothing unnecessary was left in the car.

yeah, my car now with a supercharger, completely gutted, half cage is 2400 even dry. So it SHOULD be in the 2200s after the swap.

I'm sure someone will beat me to it, but I'll be weighing the car before and after, as well as the engines.

Well I for one am pumped about this swap. I've been diving into the world of K engines for the last 2 weeks in anticipation of buying this kit, can't wait.

The harness doesn't have a specific provision for a flex fuel sensor or boost controller, but it will be easy to wire both of them to the Haltech. Our harness does include connector for the Bosch oil pressure and temp sensor, which will be included in our electronics package.

You'll be using the Haltech CAN wideband, and no OEM widebands. We'll give you exactly what you need for all this stuff.

Our harness uses an OEM style K series MAP sensor. So you can use a Hondata 4 bar sensor for boost and you'll be good to go. It's a direct replacement for OEM. You will not use a MAF on the car at all.

@ML I think you were trying to track down a rotrex mounting bracket for the k24 a/c compressor location, did you have any luck finding a company that would sell it without a kit?

Is there any waiting list to get on at this point? Our enduro team has a nice k24/k20… and a Haltech 1500… and we are all current or ex-86 owners
