Question Bizarre blinker issue, no LED lights

Hey everyone, IÂ’ve searched the forums for this issue and found things kind of similar but not quite what IÂ’ve got here.

I recently purchased a crashed Frs (front driver side). The work needed was minor just a fender a headlight and a turn signal light. I got those and threw them all in and everything appeared to work but IÂ’m having an issue I need to solve with the blinkers. I have to brake and light inspection this thing otherwise I wouldnÂ’t be bothered by it.

So the passenger side is completely fine but the driver side front blinker wonÂ’t blink when the drl or headlights are on it just stays on (as a drl). The rear light blinks but front lights wonÂ’t. If neither Drl or headlights are on, the front light will flash.

Not sure if itÂ’s related but passenger side flashes normally and driver side flashes quicker. I donÂ’t have led lights I have oem bulbs in there for now. Bulbs are brand new too. Any thoughts?

You either have a bad bulb, or a short in the harness to the headlights. Pic's of damage before repair?

Welcome to our forum, there, Kappaisa -

I suggest you check the fuses if you haven't already done so.

Oh yes, some of the guys on here may try to sell you some blinker fluid - just pay them no mind.

I have replaced the harness tidbit for the driver side as some pigtails were destroyed and eaten away but the wires were fine. I checked for power at each wire before crimping them together and looked at the wiring diagram to see which wires should put out which signals. I could not find a 4to3 pigtail that connects to the light socket anywhere so I used one off of a junked Yaris the only difference was the Yaris wire gauge was thicker than the rest of my harness. I doubt that causes significant issues after the current starts flowing. I hooked that up after finding which wires provide power to drl and which provide power while blinking.

I checked all fuses they are transmitting power when needed.

Thanks for the blinker fluid heads up, I’ve got a few extra gallons in the garage I might flush and refill if I absolutely have to

OK, I'll call ol @Opie back, he is good with fixing up mashed up twins -

My knowledge ran out when they started having more that two wires per light circuit.

So the 3 wires pulled out of the connector on the drivers side are either pinned incorrectly or were pulled so hard there is a short further back. I would double check that, and use a FRS harness (the red one) not a Yaris one. There may be a difference there. Let me know if you need any of the parts.

Thanks for your response. I’ve had a bit of trouble finding the red 3 wire connector so I rummaged salvage yards for one that fit a 7444 light. I’ll double check the pigtails and see if I can follow the harness back and check for damage.

The quick flash is an indicator that the computer is seeing a load mismatch.

After following the wiring and looking at the loom the wires all seemed good. I took vintage readings every few feet to test if I had any changes anywhere. Nothing. Is1ac’s comment had me looking at all the lights and they all appeared to be functioning so I couldn’t put together why there would be a load difference on the driver side. I found out that the 7444 bulbs our blinkers use have 2 illuminating bands in them and one is brighter than the other. The way I wired the driver side had those bands flipped so my blinker was indeed working, but the blinker was on the low light band so it was grossly overshadowed by the brighter band that took power for drl.

After taking wires out and rewriring the 3 wires to properly illuminate each light band the problem was solved. No more rapid blinking and all lights behave as they should. I guess not having the proper colors for the 3 wire light socket (since it’s from a Yaris) set me up for a 50/50 shot at flipping the wires for the wrong light bands. thanks to everyone that helped!

I did not, I was wondering if you recommend regular or synthetic.
