2023 BRZ with sti short throw shifter doesnt feel short!
Hello All,
I am new here. I had a 2018 brz base and just picked up a 2023 brz limited with short throw shifter from the factory. On the first test drive of the car didnt feel any different to my gen1 shifter. Thought i might have forgotten how the old one felt and let go. Today i test drove my friend’s GR86 which has the stock shifter. It felt exactly same. Did i just waste 500$ on the sti short throw. Or am i missing something please help |

it would probably be a good idea to measure the throw distance vs. other shifters. otherwise we're just debating how you feel, and i don't even know how i feel half the time!

The STi Short Shifter has always been a very minor difference.

sti short shifter is something like a 10% throw reduction at most.
there definitely is a difference between the sti shifter and the oem shifter, but its really only noticeable if you use them immediately one after another. it should be a port installed upgrade, but id make sure it was actually installed. paired with mtec shift springs the sti shifter is a very nice shifter to have if the throw distance doesnt bother you |

Interesting to see the reduction in throw for the short-shift is so little. Can we assume the GR shift kit is identical? I was looking at parts the other day and noticed the site had two short shift kits, one the STI and one the GR.
How is the shift feel with the STI kit? Any smoother? This post may have saved me a lot of money. |

The stock shifters on these cars are pretty short to start with so there will never be a huge "improvement" no matter which ones you get.

Found this Image online. If any one of you are thinking of getting the Short Throw Shifter from the factory. i would suggest not to. its not tagged as a STI part on the website either. kinda Disappointment with this. |

id double check and ensure you have the correct shifter installed before knocking it.. TONS of people like it, despite the price tag |

https://www.subaru.ca/WebPage.aspx?WebPageID=22510 It was noticeably shorter and very "crisp" compared to my car. My wife ordered me the STi short throw and we paid to have the dealer install it in my tS. I was shocked. It didn't feel any different, not a bit. I'm told with different springs and bushings I can get it to feel better but not any shorter. Dealer says the Raiu part number is the same but I have my doubts. |

I feel like the STI short shifter will much like the draw stiffeners and other STI parts. It's small changes, but people expect night and day. I don't regret buying the short shifter.
