2018 BRZ - Window Overrun While Rolling Up

Hey all!

I have been having this issue for over a year now - finally going to try to address it.

When I roll up my driver’s side window completely, or when the window closes after the door is shut, the window appears to overrun by maybe 1-2mm. Once the motor stops actuating, the window then descends 1-2mm and makes a creaking noise. I took a video that I hope illustrates the issue, link here:

Observe the text in the lower rear corner of the window descending when the window creaks in the interior shot. Exterior shot also shows the window descending.

Additional info 1: I can feel a slight vibration coinciding to the creaking noise in the outside door skin, towards the top and back of the door. Additionally, the rear appears to be overrunning more than the front

Additional info 2: the window appears to have some play in it - I can move the glass maybe 3-4mm within its plane when the door is open. Is this normal, or could this be a root-cause?

Additional info 3: I attempted to reset the window regulators by holding the window switches per instruction in other threads, to no avail.

Thanks all in advance!

If you pop the panel off, there are some window adjustment bolts that you can play with. It seems like one side of the window is adjusted too far up and is pushing up into the weatherstripping.

Ya know, TurboLag23, my window does that same sort of thing. What did I do about it? Nothing. Water doesn't leak in and it doesn't whistle when I'm driving, so why fret over it -

If the sound bothers you, you might consider putting a bit of silicone on the weather stripping so you don't hear it squeak.

Oh it’s about 85% OCD, 15% fear of components breaking in the long-term. The thing is clearly not working exactly right, but I am most of the problem

But yes - no water intrusion for me either which is good.

OK, try this on your OCD (maybe OCPD?).

I figure that little reversing sound is the window mechanism telling me that it has rolled the window all the way up and it backed off just a smidgen to relieve any pressure or stress on the glass, so it's less likely to crack.

Works for me -

Mine does this too, which didn't bother me, but now I have a slight whistling sound at speed. I wonder if over-closing has prematurely worn out the weatherstripping...

Thanks all for the replies! I have ordered black interior door latches online that should arrive soon. Once they get here, I'll remove the door card, assess, & correct as necessary. I've been wanting those black latches for awhile, and the door card already being off is as good of an excuse as I need. I will try to document root-cause and any fixes as well as I can, then update this thread with my findings!

Have you tired the window reset procedure?
