In my opinion, this appears to be the best kit for this platform in terms of transient response, potential capability, heat management, and maintaining the factory balance by applying the turbo underneath the car and toward the center.

I know I will purchase this turbo kit, but what I don't know is when. I am seriously considering the reasonable 14 hour drive to MD from Tampa to have it installed and tuned in-house. I am waiting on the headers, the replacement strut tower bar, and the oil cooler to be in production before purchasing PT's kit.

I was dead set on the Robispec cooling option until SW20 offered (thankfully) his logged oil temperatures of about 195F on the street and 215F during merciless pulls. Even in this suffocating subtropical Florida heat, I think the oil may cool too much for my liking. Since the gurus (whoever they are) say that 215-230F is the optimal oil temperature range, and PT's Laminova style oil cooler seems to operate at about 205-210F on the street and mid 220's on the track, PT's setup surely tickles my pickle. It's nice to cook out the water from your oil from time to time. Please advise if you believe I am misinformed.

A few questions right now, and I apologize in advance if someone has already answered them:

Does PT intend to include a thermostat with the prospective oil cooler? If so, that would be totally killer.

I noticed that you have a VTA option for your standard recirculating system. I assume this to be a 50/50 recirc/VTA system correct? Are there any caveats on this particular system in going 50/50, such as reduced transient response?

My Robispec radiator core is leaking. It will be coming out and I will be running the stock radiator with an oil cooler (brand TBD). CSGmike suggests running the stock radiator and if necessary running higher CFM SPAL fans.

You don't want a thermostat with the Ptuning oil cooler. The Ptuning oil cooler actually acts like an oil warmer below operating temps. This brings the oil up to temp quicker than usual and then maintains the oil at an optimal operating temp. This is the same thing Robispec's cooler does and is why it isn't supplied with a T-stat.

VTA blow off valve is purely VTA. There is no recirculation nor is there an option for recirculating it.

There is however an option for a Dump-to-air wastegate setup which might be what you are talking about. That is also not 50/50 but purely 100% DTA.

I'm still looking for more details on transient response. I know in my experience spooling the turbo faster is preferable to shorter IC piping, when you do the calculations it doesn't take long for a turbo to fill piping with air. I'd love to see a log of response in say 2nd/3rd gear when around 3000RPM, basically off throttle and then back on throttle right away.

I think all of the turbo kits use VTA BOVs since they all use a blow-through MAF, it's not pre-turbo. However you could always get a Tial recirc one and modify the intake pipe if you really hate the noise.

What exactly do you want logged? Manifold absolute pressure and throttle position? You can't log throttle "response" imo. You have to feel it.

This is a big turbo. Transient response from off throttle to on throttle does take a sec to build pressure at low rpms. At anything above 4.5k though its pretty much instantaneous.

If you can accept this is a turbo and not a supercharger then you'll be happy with it.

@mkivsoopra @sw20kosh @bjun

So I think I've shown you guys before, but its a simple bracket as you can see in the image. Its just going to be 4 of those with a 7/8" outer diameter stainless steel bar in between each. Still working on the pivot / angle for the side that connects to the firewall.

The bar will weld to the "Bracket Brace Support" side. It clears the pipe by about 1/2" inch or slightly more and it clears the hood by an inch at most. It's simple, ugly, and functional :-)

You guys with the kit, any of you have this style of hood ? http://seiboncarbon.com/store/produc...ubaru-brz.html. Just wonder cuz to me it looks like the filter is under the openings on the passenger side.

Not that I know of. PTuning includes a custom air guide so its not needed. The filter is literally an inch behind radiator cap for reference.

Main reason was because its the best suited for track use. Other various reasons include; a small shop with proven results, helpful staff, loyal customers, couldn't find a single complaint about PTuning on any forums / FB posts / general web, and a tuner who took 45 minutes out of his day to answer my questions and explain to me how the kit would suit my plans, build quality, non traditional design, wow factor, expandability, Garrett turbo, quality base map, and I could go on but I think that was more than enough reasons for me.

I have never kept a sports car for 6 years. My last car was my dream car that I wanted, and I sold the 111R after 6 months ;-)

Go to meets, go to tracks, chat with people and I'm sure you'll find someome who knows a guy who knows a guy. I personally don't.

Thanks again man! I plan on keeping my 86 for a while so I definitely need some connections.... I have yet to drive a turbo charged frs and I hope this will be the kit I try out girsr not that it matters but the main reason I'm planning on purchasing this kit is that is really simple to switch back to stock! !

Heading out around 3:00 am tomorrow to go pick it up (traveling from Massachusetts). I'll have a nice 420 mile drive to test it out on the way back, and looking forward to it
