Thumbs up Seeking Advice! Swift BRZ, Alignment!

Hey all,

I finally got around to getting my Swift Springs and SPC Rear Control Arms + Front Camber Bolts installed. Totally expected my alignment to be off, but this time it was exceptionally bad to the point where it frequently triggers my VSC to kick in and it'll start braking for me in low speed turns. Car is horribly "floaty" and unstable right now, so alignment is happening today! With that said I am in dire need of some proper guidance from you knowledgable folks.

I'm looking for handling that's at least as tight as it was stock (BRZ) but can take on the twisty canyon roads with greater confidence than before. I believe my SPC front camber gives me (1.75 +/-) of camber, and the rear is (2.00 +/-). I realize it's not too much to work with... though correct me if those SPC specs are wrong.
  • Swift Springs BRZ Spec; lowered 1" [Front: 3.8/kg - Rear: 4.5/kg]
  • Most of my driving will be on the highway (commuting)
  • Spirited weekend driving up in the "twisties"
  • Occasional track and AutoX usage (May 9th @ Thunderhill HPDE, for example)
  • Seeking handling that is a bit more tame - noob friendly!

The alignment guy briefly said that a tiny bit of toe in the rear would be good, but I'm not sure if thats desirable, doesn't toe-in in the rear kill my tires?

Anyway, I appreciate any advice you can provide on a somewhat "all-around" alignment setting given my options. I would appreciate input on how to deal with alignment guys too, to make sure I get what I want.

Thanks so much!
David

Excessive toe will kill your tires, but a tiny bit won't be bad (like 1/16"). Running zero rear toe will make the car rotate more at turn in, but also feel less stable. The BRZ's come with a bit of rear toe stock, so keeping it inline with the stock spec probably isn't a bad thing to start with.

Max out your front camber via the bolts, and then run a tad less (0.25 to 0.4 less) in the rear. 0 toe front and rear.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
@CSG Mike - If you don't mind, could you help explain your reasoning for 0 on toe all around? Just out of curiosity; I'd love to understand the thought process behind this. Ugh, if I lived in SoCal would've gone to you guys for everything.

While there is some dynamic toe change, it's not enough to really warrant running static toe. Likewise, the car doesn't exactly have a ton of power, so toe-in on the rear isn't necessary to promote stability.

Toe also scrubs the tires, sapping power, and this car needs every bit of power it can get.

Last but not least, the car is stable under static cornering, so no need for toe-in to stabilize the rear. Some setups actually benefit from a tiny bit of toe-out.
