Auto-lock locking me out of car!
Anyone experience this? I'm showing the car to my friend, so I start the car, pop the hood, then step out and close the door behind me. We're both standing outside talking, and during our conversation the car automatically locks itself. (I read in the manual that it's supposed to do this, but wait ...)
When I reach for the door (keyless entry), nothing happens... When I push the unlock button on the remote, nothing happens... I had to take the metal key out of the remote and manually unlock the door to get back in! PS - I have the Limited, so it has the keyless access. |

Good to know! I wonder if you would have walked out of proximity range and then back again it would have sensed the need to free up the door handle to unlock? Obviously, this is the "security feature" to prevent a carjack. However, other cars I've owned lock the doors after you begin rolling @ several mph. Could not find anything in the manual that addresses auto locking other than "Security Feature" pg. 39. I always crack a window low enough to reach in if I leave the vehicle while running, just in case! Good thing you had the remote on your person.

I've had my Limited auto-lock on me, but I've been able to open it by grabbing the handle. In fact it did it once while I was trailering the car. So I keep the key in the car while I'm hauling it so bumps don't set off he alarm.

Mine has never locked itself. Must be a configurable feature.

Sound pretty odd because normally (assuming that you have a key on you when you walked out of the car while the engine is running), you can lock/unlock regardless of conditions as long as you have a key on you.

Yeah mine has never auto locked. I've walked pretty far away from the car with the engine running and it starts beeping to alert you the key is out of range but that's it. It does lock and unlock itself a lot when I'm washing it though because the water sets off the touch sensors. Could it be something like that? Where in the manual does it say it will do this?

First time I've heard there was an auto-lock (other than after you unlock to doors and never open them for X seconds). Didn't see it in the configurable features in the manual either.
Could you replicate the issue again? |

i once had a rental car ( nissan tida ) it locks itself after 1 minute from the inside.
i was dropping my sister off once somewhere so i went down with her to help her cause she got lots of bags with her, i left the car running ( its pretty safe here ) and the car locked itself with the keys inside ......... LUCKLY my sister forgot her window open so i unlocked it, it was such a terrifying experience. |

All the automatic locking stuff and key FOBs seem annoying. I have the traditional key-only for my Celica and that's how i like it-- old school.

How do you enable auto lock feature? I want the car to auto lock as I start driving and if possible, to auto open when engine is unlocked.
Is it a function or the auto lock everyone is talking about is different? Edit: I meant when engine is stopped not unlocked.. LOL Last edited by Sportsguy83; 07-06-2012 at 05:36 PM. |

My Limited doesn't auto lock. I hate that feature. I know when I want the doors locked or not.

Best rule of thumb, always take the key with you, and if you're gonna leave it in the ignition to show someone the car with the engine on, roll the drivers side window down. I live by these rules and have NEVER been locked out of my car.
