Trueno as a daily?

Hi Everyone,

It has been 6 months since an idiot hit me and my 2019 BRZ limited got totaled. I am waiting since Sep 2023 for a BRZ but very unlikely to find one (WRB, AT).
Today I checked the Trueno and liked the automatic Halo's look. since the dealer asked for an 8500 dealer adjustment I did not even bother to test drive it.

I was happy with the comfort of my BRZ. Will this Trueno edition be too harsh for a daily? I know there are some differences regarding ride quality but is it that noticeable?

The GR dual exhaust: is that something like the 2018 TRD exhaust?

Any input especially from those who had the chance to drive the BRZ and 86is much appreciated.

thanks

My old daily was an 2013 FRS with TRD lowering springs and TRD exhaust.
My new daily is a Trueno with GR exhaust.

The new GR exhaust has definitely less drone, and is perhaps a slight bit quieter than the TRD exhaust. A deeper/louder sound than stock though.

The Trueno and sachs dampers are MUCH nicer and compliant than the old struts and TRD lowering springs, and although tastes differ the Trueno ride is not harsh at all to me. That said, the BRZ was always a bit softer than the FRS, so I cannot comment on the ride relative to the BRZ.

Really you are going to have to judge ride quality for yourself... it is just too subjective. What I think is a great improvement over the FRS with TRD springs might still be to stiff for some people...

Thanks for the detailed response.
Still considering the BRz but if I can find a Trueno without the crazy dealer adjustments will try to get it. Did you also get the subwoofer as an add on? Some have it.

Any Gen2 will be much better vs gen 1 as a daily. Personally you can't go wrong with either. I would try and hold out for a standard BRZ

AutoTrader seems to list a number of new blue BRZ in your general area... but none with AT. Tough to get an AT in a car known for its MT. (Funny, when I was looking in late '22, the dealer was baffled that anyone would want an MT!) Around here BRZs are easier to get, as our Subaru dealers are generally nicer to deal with than Toyota... but equally bad at fixing things. Good luck.

Had my wife in the Trueno the other day and she said it rode much smoother than my 2017 PP BRZ.

She is all about the comfort, so there you go.

That’s interesting! I still believe that my 2019 BRZ limited was a little more comfortable than my current trueno. Maybe it’s placebo
Overall was very happy and still am very happy. Both cars puts the big smile on the face.

The Trueno's interior isn't much different from the BRZ's, but if you're used to the Limited trim (with premium features like heated seats or a good sound system), you might notice the absence of these amenities on the GR86 Trueno.

In a word: No.

The Trueno has all the premium features, including heated seats as well as a few cosmetic improvements too (which obviously won't affect comfort).

Actually not sure about the other GR86’s specs but as mentioned it’s equipped with the heated seat. My trueno came with the GR performance exhaust and also the subwoofer. I like Exhaust and sound system is not worse than the Brz. Enjoying the ride every single day. The bonus is remote start and with the addition of Dauntless now I have remote windows up/down and automatic door luck function. At the beginning I was not sure about the black stripes and hood cover. Has been 8 months and no regrets. Everything together looks great. At least that what I am at right now.

I think the look is sharp and not even close to treading into RICER territory. I have a friend with a red car and didn’t know when to stop. What makes it especially bad is he will be 80 soon. However, watching guys barely old enough to buy beer admiring his car in the parking lot is pretty funny.

I sympathize with your situation. It is a pity to have to wait so long and have your beloved car get into an accident. Suika game
