Is it really any question that nearly any modern sports car isn't going to be halfway decent at track? 1:58@buttonwillow

Vette Stingray 2:01

I doubt it's any question most of these cars are going to be pretty incredible on the track. Add in driver variation and skill levels differing and the tons of potential for aftermarket on any performance car, I'm pretty sure the Supra will hold up to its competition. Not to mention that the Supra is coming from the team that made the 86. Not to mention Gazoo Racing has taken it to the nurburgring for 24 hours.

Yeah I'm pretty convinced "it's going to hold its own."

I was shooting for basic prices. You can spend over $4k for a titanium exhaust. You can spend significantly less than $750 for a straight pipe down at Joe-Smoe Mufflers. $750 was reasonable for a basic catback.

Around here the Sunday drivers buy the cars new, put 2,000 miles on over 5 years and then sell it for the next model. The guys buying them then use them as daily driver through the nice weather. I doubt if 1/2 a percent ever see any form of track or other type of formal racing use.

I reeeeally like the Supra's in Red. Like a lot. Enough to have me contemplating when/if I can afford one, to just suck it up about the lack of manual.

Yep, my experience has been stereotypical. Most of the guys who I know or who I have met who have a new Corvette look like Jay Leno; they are middle aged, grey haired, pot bellied, small business owners. They daily a Cadillac or some huge sedan or 250/350 class truck, and the Corvette comes out on Sundays or only in dry weather. None of them have had it as their primary vehicle. That is my experience.

But yes, just like you guessed… Studies show, the average Corvette owner is around 59 years of age.
I don't know about the demographics on GTR buyers, but I'm guessing a few years younger. The Porsche buyers are a little younger too. In the Supra/Corvette price range, which would be the Cayman/Boxster, the demographic average is much younger than the Corvette.

The typical buyer of the Porsche 911 in the U.S. is aged between 46 and 65, with an average age of 52. By comparison, the Boxster buyer is aged between 36 and 55, with an average age of 47.

Should see my neighbour. Comes out every sunday with his stupid C7 (he has deadpool decals on it... like why) and Mustang GT '15, turns them on, let's them idle for 5-10 min, then shuts them off and puts them back in the garage.

Yep. Older empty nesters with higher levels of disposable income for weekend toys. It isn't like people all of sudden want new Corvettes at age 60 it is simply that is when they can finally afford them.

We have a big car meet every Sunday not to far from my house. There are at least 12 guys that bring their Corvettes and Mustangs on a regular basis. I doubt if they have a total of 5,000 between all of them on those cars. It is literally drive the car a few miles to the meet. Stand around 2 or 3 hours with the hood open. Drive it home and put it back in the garage. Every single Sunday. They are all between 55 and 65 years old.

That's pretty much it. I'd have owned a Vette 20 years ago if I hadn't needed an Astro to drive the kiddies around. I can only justify so much money in depreciating assets so the sports car had to wait. The FRS was a compromise because it was a decent DD once I didn't need the family car full time, but was still paying for college for the kiddies.

Well none of this is surprising when you consider the average age of new car buyers (of all types) in the US is 53 years old, and folks 24 and under represent 1% of the new car market. Source here.

In my opinion, the new car "average age" is skewed by a couple of things. First, most people in the "older bracket" will own multiple cars that were purchased new. Second, a lot of times the new car is purchased by the older person but benefits the younger person.

It melts my BRAIN!..

Anybody I have ever met that is very well interested in cars and their performance/maintenance, any mechanic worth their salt, and every person I've met that can drive are car skillfully has all said this same thing:

"The best thing you can do for a car, is DRIVE it."

"Cars are meant to be driven."

"Just drive the damn car." <--- Loosely translated to the above.

Are you trying to say I'm a 1%er.

Why do I not feel like one.

Hah! Looks that way, at least in this demographic. Be proud!
