Remove P4S tires from my stock BRZ PP wheels and mounting snow tires?

So, with the falling temps it's probably time to get ready for the first winter with my new to me 2017 BRZ Limited with PP.

I'm not a huge fan of the stock PP wheels and I haven't found many cheap options for winter wheels that can clear the PP brakes, so I was thinking of removing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires currently on the stock wheels and replacing them with some winter tires. Then, in the spring I'll get some new wheels to mount the P4S on.

Any downsides to this plan?

As long as your Michelins are dry rotted there's not gonna be any issue. Make sure you wash the underside of the brz during the winter and don't have too much fun doing donuts

From the info I got when I bought the car, the P4S were mounted new on the wheels last fall and only have a few thousand miles on them, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I need to find somewhere around here where I can safely throw the car around a bit after the first snowfall, so I know what to expect. I haven't driven a rear wheel drive car on snow for 17 years...

Any ol parking lot usually does the trick. If you can't find one go to the back of a grocery store or plaza. You know how it is

This is actually a common practice. Stock rims for winter and cool aftermarket rims for summer performance tires.

I like my PP rims so I kept them for summer and I was lucky enough to find a used set of black PP rims for winter tires.

Unfortunately, I've found a pretty big downside to my plan. Most of the cool wheels that fit over the PP brakes are wider than 17x7.5, so my existing 215/45R17 P4S wheels won't fit them.

Maybe it's back to my original plan for a cheap winter setup at Discount Tire for now:
Vision Cross 17x7.5 +40 wheels in matte black with Hankook WINTER I CEPT EVO 2 W320 215/45 tires for $989.98 including tax.

Then, look for new summer wheels when my P4S need to be replaced.

Yea finding normal sized wheels that clear the Brembos is annoying.

You could sell the summer tires and just buy a new set with the wheels. Not the most economical solution, but just pointing out the option. Tirerack mounts and balances before shipping if you buy from them, so that reduces that cost a bit.

I have a 2018 Performance Pack and I like the car wayyyy better with wider wheels & tires anyways. On 255/35 sticky summer tires there's so much cornering grip it's mental.

+1 for stock wheels & winters and then nice aftermarket wheels w/ summers.

Just get some spacers. My 17x8 fit over my RR street BBK. 3mm spacer is fine for stock wheel studs. If you want good but cheap wheels look at konig wheels.
