You were probably using some sort of CAD software for engineering,but in the graphic arts field,mainly printing,Adobe Illustrator is pretty much the industry standard.

Personally,I prefer Corel over AI because I seems to be a bit more simpler to use for me,since I'm self taught and didn't go to school for graphic arts.

nope we used adobe illustrator and corel draw, in my case I made batarangs and I just traced over the edges of the dark knight bat symbol, or say a christmas tree or a valentines day heart, then you import that "trace" over ethernet to the laser cutting table. We did the same for the CNC router for weird gaskets to practice cutting

So 2.3x2.9 is pretty safe? Have a bit of wiggle room with those measurements
