As long as my BRZ is within range of a GATE station I won't be needing a flex fuel kit. One issue solved.

The decision between EcuTek and OFT is leaning toward the OFT for the time being and this is due to the ease of changing tune stages -E85 etc- and recovering the OE tune without third party assistance.
I must also confess that the not insignificant cost Δ Is an issue at this early stage when I'm not yet certain about this project's longevity.

Thanks to all for their input.
Sooo you are actively ignoring everyones advice in this thread, nice.

I wouldn't trust a stations readings on ethanol content, if you aren't running flex you should probably be testing it at least.

Ecutek can set different maps that you can change through using the cruise control stick. So as far as I know it is easier to change tunes with ecutek (oft might have this feature but I am not sure).

Give him a break. Sounds like he is on a budget, and already has the OFT. He should be fine if he gets consistent stuff from a good station and is careful. The oft tunes I understand are pretty conservative.

Good luck.

I just don't get asking questions if you already know the answer you want. I get going on a budget and that is why I gave the advice I did after my more snarky comment.

Just got the thumb up from Zach of Delicious Tuning today after month long remote tuning for my ACE header and DT flex fuel kit. Super happy about the entire process, the performance of my car and peace of mind that FF kit will take care of all the guessing game when mixing fuels.

While I'm looking for that body of water .... I spoke at length with a very experienced EcuTek Master Tuner who told me that there Is nary a difference between a EcuTek tuned BRZ and one on OFT. Same hardware on both cars yields the same curves on the dynamometer.

Some people would be shocked to hear the guy's name.

While I use OFT as well, there is more to a tune than dyno curve.

In theory, yes. In reality, that's just not the case.

You'd get the exact same curve with a BRZ tuned on BRZedit, OFT, Ecutek, AEM Infinity, LINK, MOTEC, and Bosch, if the same person put in enough time on every system to produce the result. In theory.

I'm FF tuned on Ecutek by James Martin of HRI. I had annoying problems with OFT e85, such as random fuel sender codes or max lean condition without a vacuum leak, but I know not everyone has the same issues. The idea is that every station regardless of what they say will have varying ethanol content to some degree. The kit takes the guesswork out of the whole thing and doesn't make the car try to compensate by itself.

As James put it, the OFT e85 rom does work, it's just not the best option when there are better options out there. You can eat soup with a fork, very slowly, but should you?

I'm not trying to come off as snarky just trying to help you along with the whole "buy nice or buy twice" philosophy.

Considering I had a gas station sell.me 87 as.93, I wouldnt trust them as.far as.you can throw them. also this.is.a no.shit comment because its.the same hardware. the issue is in the software...

I believe e85 is blended at the pump.
