Is that 43 mpg on the highway for the manual? That is very impressive if correct. Or are these imperial gallons?

That has been discussed elsewhere - shorter gear ratios for the manual, very efficient locking torque converter on the auto.

Yeah I'm 99% certain that is what it is given those l/100km numbers. Virtually the same as I get with my Tib - a 1998 car, so that is not too impressive. Of course it does pump out 60 more hp.

Wow, I thought direct injection was suppose to increase the fuel economy and make it more efficient than other cars. Do you guys think this might be because it's the first generation for this engine and that's why it isn't very efficient?

Wait nevermind I was reading the numbers wrong. I didn't realize the last 3 numbers were city/highway/average lol

The fuel economy on the automatic is almost Corolla like 7.2 combined is actually pretty crazy for a 200hp car, I wonder ( in all hilarity ) if this car managed to avoid the 'eco' light

None of the Canadian numbers ever mean anything because there are no laws here to force manufacturers to be honest...

www.Fueleconomy.gov

Incredibly accurate, MPG or LP100, customized driving distances, gas prices and annual kilometers. Best site in the world for conversations like this.

My annual gas cost in an FR-S should be around $1000... but then I live 5km from work.

Well judging from those numbers we have right now it seems smarter for me to just pay more for the auto right now rather than pay more in gas money. Since I'm gonna use mine as a daily drive and not a track only car, it's going to add up rather quickly.

Is there a reason why it needs Premium when it's a naturally aspirated engine? This might be the wrong place to ask, but my friend believes that a car should only need premium if there's a turbo, otherwise it's fine to use regular octane 87

Lots of specialty NA engines require premium, they are engineered to get maximum performance out of the lightest/smallest engine size at the cost of fuel type. Makes sense for a sports car or sports sedan, not for a standard car.
