Akebono brake pad hardware trouble
I put on a set of Akebono pads today, they came with abrutment clips that fit into the caliper, and I had trouble with these. They aren't the same as the factory hardware, and don't clip in as easily. I was able to fit the clips on the front calipers with some fiddling, but the clips for the rear calipers had no way of fitting in, and I had to reuse the factory clips.
Not sure if I should use them like this. Should I order some new clips from Subaru so I know that the fit is right? Or is it more important that I use akebono's shims? Perhaps I bought the wrong akebono pad set from rockauto? |

In my experience those aftermarket clips don’t fit properly hence are useless.
I just clean up the original clips and reuse them. Of course OEM replacements could be purchased should yours show wear. Good luck! |

I usually reuse stock clips on aftermarket pad "ears". Just in addition to them using brake dust cleaner, wire brush, and a bit sandpaper, to clean all accumulated crap in those clips and in caliper, when i change pads. (obviously also regrease where needed).
Rarely aftermarket pads don't fit for any other reason but uncleaned crap (but it may happen. in such case one can work on them a bit with file) |
