I still have plenty of STi torque to play with when I need to.

Oh... you're the super fast guy in STU in DC the last few years. I'm only doing 3-4 National events next year, but I wouldn't mind if you tried my car at FedEx a time or two to see how far I have to go to catch the super fast guys?

I think I have to do 225/50/16s because I was already on the limiter at many events on 215/45/17s. I agree that 225/45/16 would be great for smaller courses, but very few that I do. I'll do the 235/40/17 ZIIs if the Toyos and Yokos don't work.

That would be me…unless you're talking about Shane of course.

I would be more than happy to take it for a spin…likely literally, being at FedEx and all.

Any one looking to upgrade their brake pads for next season?

I've used the Stoptech Performance pads on both Front and Rear, but am looking for something a bit more aggressive with regards to initial bite.

Also, it seems some of the track guys are using a selection of front bias combinations to address concerns regarding rotation during trail braking.

Has anyone else racing in Stock/Street class had particular success with using a staggered brake pad set-up?

I don't know if anyone else here gets GRM, but for those who don't, here is another interesting street tire comparison by Andy Hollis. FYI, this test was done on a track, not autocross but still interesting as people are researching tires for the next year:

Keep in mind, that's for a lightweight FWD car on a track.

I ran DS2500 + Stock for most of the season worked alright but I recently switched to DS2500 all around and HOLY CRAP. I thought the rear brake wasn't important enough but yes it is.

Loving the feel now. Definitely touchier on the street with a little heat but I like that.

This. Hard to compare this at all.

I will keep in mind to not post up motorsport articles that aren't directly related to our cars and form of motorsports. I did preface the link with that it was track testing not autocross.

Andy's tire testing may be more relevant to the FR-S/BRZ, but it was usually the opposite for the heavier cars like the STI's. His One Lap car is in the 1900lb range. I'm thinking the data has some merit, but probably not for CS where we are limited in wheel size and alignment. STX folks should probably pay some attention.

I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time.

I just want to make sure it's clear that these tests sometimes aren't anything more than a data point. The fastest tires at Nats were not the same ones that won the GRM tests.

I will still be getting the ZIIs simply because that was the fast tire in RTR on the twins last year. I could, and probably should, have just posted it in the main section but I relate to people better in this thread and I wanted if buried a bit more.

I apologize if posting it here made it seem like I was trying relate the two. I just figured that people who were looking into street tires would be interested in seeing another comparison from a good magazine that a lot of people don't get.

P.S. I wouldn't be as butt-hurt about its poor reception in this thread if it didn't take me 30 minutes to figure out how to get the copier at work to put all of the scans into a single PDF!

I ran both the Rival and the Z2 extensively this year at tours. The Rival was faster on concrete in the right conditions at Peru, Wilmington, Lincoln (Spring), and one other local event in Iowa at Hawkeye Tech. Generally speaking, if the course is concrete, conditions are dry, temps are above 50F, and there is no OPR to worry about, my choice is the Rival over the Z2. If I could only have one tire it would for sure be the Z2. After seeing what the Toyo did in STX and on the Lotus in RTR, I will probably be trying those as well this year dependent on any other new offerings.

I also have a set of Koni 2-ways for sale including the donor converted front struts. Fronts are new (replaced by Koni), rears have a few months on them. Selling because I switched to MCS. PM me if interested.
