I was thinking a mechanized cybernetic version too. It could in theory even be more fair if their speeds/jumping/etc was all limited to the same value.

Not sure I agree with this. It's one of the reasons I don't watch a lot of motorsports. There should be nothing "fair" about a competition. You should be able to bring whatever you can engineer within the "class". Any limitations should be simple like weight, type of car, fuel, maybe engine size (but not how it's engineered).

Motorsports should include the equipment, not just the drivers in the competition. I'm looking at you NASCAR...

OK, off my moonshine box now....

The problem with that is cost of entry gets out of control (ahem F1). Making all the machines similar or having other technical rules controlling costs allows more competitive entrants. Also, if one car is always the fastest, is there ever a reason to go watch the race?

Money spent on the car could be a limiting factor, it works in the 24 Hours of Lemons type races. You could also have an Unlimited category.

Cost caps vary by location though. It's not a one size fits all situation. It's hard to make a competition when rules apply differently to different competitors.

Lemons is ok because it's a fun hobby, not so much a serious competition, and that is intentional.

Eh, not really. Especially considering you are allowed, and encouraged, to bribe the judges.

It would be fun to do lemon race... but with recent used car price, finding and prepping a car that's $500 or under gonna be hard.

Don’t think the under $500 segment has been impacted by the price increases.
Doubt there are many people that can’t get a new Civic that are fighting with somebody to pick up that 1998 Sunfire instead.

Well haha I was thinking more like soccer and bicycling where it would be all (player and coaching) strategy and less about body building. Although I guess the breakaways would be unstoppable if everyone runs the same speed... Plus anyone could play and be competitive, a 5 year old, a 95 year old, a handicapped...

Depends, I mean I love watching unlimited drag racing, but stock car racing is fun too because it's [more] about the driver and less about how much money they have.
