Need help with swapping engine FRS

I got a call from the dealer saying my engine was locked, thus needing a new engine....before the unsettling news I was looking into buying a supercharger, however now I will be using that money to buy an engine. I do not want to go near the stock FA20, what are other possible engines that I can swap in with a budget of 4K.

Also, looking for reliability, I'll be moving to uni. soon and will not have extra $$$ to shell out on oil pumps, etc.
Thank you!

There is a whole subforum for motor swaps http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=92

A budget of $4k is nowhere near enough for a swap, much less a reliable setup.

What's a reasonable budget them? I've never messed with engines, I'm strictly electrical.

you could easily spend 4k just on the electronics and interfacing to get a different engine functioning let alone the actual engine and labour to install

Given your situation, it's just best to drop in the OEM engine. Then save up later on down the road. That way at lest you'll have something to roll around in.

Salvage motors go between 1500 and 2600. Do yourself a favor and stick with your year model.. 2013-2014

None.

The isnt a problem with the FA20 and you cant afford anything else so just get a new(used) one and put it in.

You are in over your head if you cant even figure out a budget for the swap. If you somehow figure a budget out the rule of thumb I have gone by is double it. Dumb shit adds up fast when doing custom work.

How did you manage to lock the engine anyway? Hydrolock?

Your reality check:

a decent running stock FA20 runs over $3k. Add in labor to swap in and that's your $4k budget.

I think you should swap in a FA20 instead of your stock 4U-GSE. Makes more horsepower.

OP wouldn't the dealer replace the engine under warranty?

it might make more sense to go through insurance if you're sticking with the FA20. I'm assuming it was hydrolocked and your insurance SHOULD cover it unless you were dumb and drove into a pool of water.

Decided to stick with the fa20 and install a supercharger(7K). I don't know, I bought it from a salvage auction, it was listed as only hail damage.
