Am i crazy for not wanting

am i crazy for not wanting to modify my frs in any way? Dont get me wrong, alot of mods will make the frs look better and perform better but i cant get over the fact that the frs is the very very first generation of a car that shares nothing with any previous cars from either toyota or subaru.

I really would like some tint on the windows or a spoiler to keep the rear planted on the highway tho...

Only thing that's a must go, are the emblems.

I would agree but not for the reason you're stating. Because Subaru/Toyota put soo much R&D into the car, modifying it in any way will change the dynamics of the car and will have a ripple effect into everything. And also

You're not crazy at all. The car is great right out of the box.

It's not crazy at all. I'm keeping mine pure stock, partly for financial reasons, partly for warranty reasons. The only things I'm looking at doing to the car at all during the span of my ownership (I.E. until I die or the US bans ICE engines) are getting a TRD spoiler, getting a repaint eventually (with vinyls), and dropping a new engine in when the original dies.

The only things I plan on doing are easily reversible back to stock if the need ever arises.

Any major upgrades will be with TRD parts only. I plan on keeping as much value as possible.

I'm not a teenager anymore and I think more with my bank account than whether or not chicks will dig it.

I agree with some of the above posts...

I'm keeping my FR-S stock because:
  • I'd like to keep the factory engineering of the car untouched.
  • My warranty is very precious.
  • And money is tight these days, therefore I need to stay conservative.
I find nothing wrong with staying stock... My modifying days may very likely be over, and I don't see myself touching my FR-S. This car will be one of my last three cars which I haven't modified at all.

All I plan to do is LEDs and HIDs this year. And because work has been a nightmare the past 2 months and I am on straight commission, AND I have had absolutely NO nibbles selling my 2012 xB despite running several online ads...

I promised the wife I wouldnt do ANYTHING yet.

...which sucks

Planning on keeping it stock and just enjoying it the way it comes, for at least the first 6 months. If I like what I see with regards to FI kits and the price is right for me, then I will consider going down that path. Depends on how the car handles the additional power in the long term.

I feel like the first iteration is just Toyota/Subaru putting their feelers out and seeing how the market responds. I think the MY14/15 will have a beefier engine and at least a higher performance model(trd/sti), so I'm considering keeping it bone stock for 18 months, trading in and preordering the STI version. Hard to say, depends on how the car responds to FI and if the engine turns out to be a beast and the transmission is able to handle the load no problem.

I would agree with you for the most part but I would think TRD kept the balance in mind for their kits. I wouldn't be too sure about STI for the BRZ.

Others (in other threads) have stated that the resale value would go down if modifications are installed but you could just swap out your modifications for the stock parts when you want to resell and sell the mods separately if it makes more sense then.

As for me this will be my first new car so I'd like to personalize it as much as possible. Either way its up to the owner of the car to do what they feel is right! :happy0180:

The car was built to be an out of the box fun car, and it is. I would recommend taking off the huge emblems on the trunk and skip the spoiler though, but that's just me. Tint and a nicer set of tires wouldn't hurt resale value or take away from what they initially designed.

I would only trust companies that actually put in significant amount of R&D into their parts for the FRS/BRZ and not just release parts like Cusco not saying they are bad parts it's just I wanna see the R&D, numbers, etc and how it affects everything else in the car. This car is already balanced out of the factory and I want to keep it that way if I'm gonna mod it or at least close to it.
