TRD options and Badging? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hi forum! New here. Just wondering if there has been any word regarding a TRD version of the FT. Heres what I understand. Joint venture, Toyota design, Sub. 2.0 boxer engine.

I passionately followed the FT-HS:

, but figured it would end up as merely an engine with a shake and bake exterior after seeing the Subi test mule:

And then I saw this sketch and kind of fell off the hope train:

But now after seeing the official concept, and the beauty and possiblities in its design, I'm back.

Do we officially know which badge it will have, and when t arrives on US shores, will it have a TRD option, or possibly STI?

Are people thinking that the TRD/STI will be the turbo'ed version?

I Realize we are still in production development phases, but I'm just curious of thoughts out there with the current info out.

There could be turbo versions down the road but right now I think Toyota and Subaru want to keep the costs down and bring in the na version first. This car should have a good power-to-weight ratio if they keep the car light.

This is just a guess but I think that if they came out with a TRD badged version it'll be forced inducted.

But even if theres no official TRD version I hope a TRD sueprcharger will be available at some point.

I'm expecting a TRD SC'd version too. Unfortunatley, it will probably be a centrifugal blower... I'd rather see a roots or turbo on it.

Still, a factory warrantied blower and factory tuned ECU would be a nice thing to have

Im absolutly sure there will be some type of blower option out of the TRD parts section and maybee later full TRD kits that you can just check off at the dealership when you buy the car. I cant imagine toyota not going all out with a gem like this

I feel like the aftermarket will be able to do alot more then TRD will just because they are an OEM department that has more rules to follow

I think they are many that will gladly give up maximum gains for the comfort of having an OEM part. It may not give the best increase in power or performance, but you can be rest assured it will allow the car to last longer since Toyota has to back it up.

No doubt this car will have a HUGE aftermarket.

Some of the best, hottest, and most desired performance parts for an AE86 came from TRD, not HKS and others like it.

TRD parts had the same, if not more, engineering, quality, and performance behind them as many of their aftermarket counterparts. Thats because Toyota openly raced the AE86 back in the 80's in its respective class. All of the engineering that went into those cars were made available to the public, for a steep price mind you, but they were of extremely high quality.

TRD wide-body is still the BEST looking, and functional, body upgrade for the AE86, imo. You find one its like striking an entire mountain of gold...all to yourself.

How much do TRD superchargers usually run? Are TRD parts expensive or reasonable compared to good quality aftermarket Toyota parts?

Eh, they are always sourced from the outside, but Toyota won't back crap... and they'll warranty it.

I wish those assholes had just slapped a TRD sticker on the Blitz SC kit for the 7th gen Celica when it first came out instead of leaving us in the lurch to do our own R&D...

why cant toyota come with SR5 as 2.0L and the GTS with 2.5l (TRD edtion with turbo) ,since both of these engines are available in Subaru already.

now that would be nice..wishful thinking and keeping my fingers crossed!!

Honestly guys I would'nt like to see a TRD version of this car..

Because TRD is a joke. TRD parts are often rebadged product.

Here is an exemple for the last gen celica :

TRD springs = eibach
TRD shocks = kyb
TRD clutch = ACT
TRD Exaust = HKS

Well TRD stil make their stickers themself I think..

clever with the badges there.

They should have the GTV, Black Limited and Shuichi Shigeno Versions too...

Will we start calling them "Zenki" and "Kouki" after trim changes too?
