2017 new BRZ spoiler swap?

The new BRZ spoiler looks amazing, don't you just want it on frs?
Direct replacement on FRS? any idea?

The trunk lid has been redesigned to support the new mount points.

If your car already has pre-2017 OEM spoiler, you will have more holes on the trunk than 2017 spoiler really needs. Because of its raised pedestal design, 2017 doesn't require the mounting holes on the center whereas pre-2017 has additional 4 extra holes. 2017 spoiler only needs 4 holes (red circled) at each far end of the spoiler and probably one in the middle of the trunk.

Nope, no hole in the middle. The middle piece you see in photos is not actually connected to the trunk. It is a support piece with a rubber base and corresponding clear plastic protector on the trunk. The two make contact if you use the spoiler to close the trunk due to the deflection in the aluminum wing. It is merely there to keep the spoiler from being damaged due to people grabbing it to close the trunk.

Damn this new spoiler will not work for a spoiler swap. The 4 holes in the middle will not be covered up if you put the new one one

This is what the factory holes look like on a 2017 brz. I don't really care for this wing... Trying to find a wing that will cover these holes....

Thank you for sharing the valuable info on the spolier attach points.

From the pictures, it is not an easy task to install the 2017 rear wing due to specific hole shapes that shouldn't be created with a normal drill....

Could you please show the underside of the spoiler base and also what it looks like under the trunk lid?

Thank you.

Here's what it looks like under the trunk lid. Two 10mm nuts and a clip. I don't have pics of the underside of the wing.

This is an old thread, but it has some great pictures of the US 2017 BRZ spoiler. Which is now also the US Toyota 860 special edition spoiler.

I'm shopping for a new car and looked the 860, but I'm leaning towards the base model hot lava (less flashy orange). One problem is the lack of this spoiler option. The base spoiler is not doing it for me, and very few have them anyway. I'd love to put the all black 860 spoiler on it, if that is a part Toyota could even order. ft86speedfactory.com has an unpainted BRZ one for sale too. To get one with ends painted hot lava would be fantastic, but I understand that is a difficult color to match due to the pearlescent nature of it.

The biggest difficulty beyond painting or ordering, though, is mounting. I understand the new trunks have reinforced plates to keep the metal from flexing, and I'm guessing 86 trunks without an 860 special edition spoiler from the factory do not have this reinforcement. Can anyone confirm this? If it's missing, is this something you can add? Or are these plates under the folds of metal and not accessible? Some of these pics above suggest that.

Thanks,
Myriad

Take a look at both interiors, though. It will be an easy win for the 860. I would have gotten that car, but there were none in the whole state of Florida and I didn't want a yellow edition BRZ.

Question. Does the 17 86 share the same spoiler as the FRS? They look very similar.

Yeah, the interior with the orange stitching is fantastic. But that orange paint is pretty bright, and I even like orange as a Flyers fan! I wish it was toned down just a bit. Maybe I should take another look, but they are hard to find. I've only seen it in person once on a road trip, but locally they are starting to filter in so maybe I'll have more chances soon. All that extra money makes me pause, too.

I do believe the stock spoiler for 2017 86 is the same as the FRS.
