I was going to order the 16" tire/steelie combo but now I'm completely torn..

I don't get it.
Why buy a brand new car, and save a little money on ugly steelies instead of some cheap alu-rims? |

17" Steelies. Now I've seen it all.
I'm truly struggling to think of a benefit here. 16" is cheaper and offers a taller sidewall (not that it's a huge plus). Quote:

I would go with 16's. The cost savings (both wheels and tires) combined with additional grip gained by having the taller sidewall make it worth it. There are situations when a smaller sidewall may be preferred, but in general I advise people to go with a smaller wheel than larger in most conditions.

Yeah steel wheels look mean when your car is packed with snow and ice. I use to always buy an extra set of OEM rims and mount winter tires, but ever since trying out steel rims on my IS250, I was sold.

17in tires are always going to cost more.
I put 15s on my car for winter tires, super cheap tires and a narrower tire cuts thru snow easier and is less prone to hydroplaning... just a thought.
