The new door handle latch is more plastic than my chrome wrapped plastic latch handle!

Honestly I notice the grab handle on my car every time I use it, and I love it! I really do think I would miss it...

Otherwise I'm a huge fan of the new car, may have to overcome loss of handle

this is the only 1 of 2 vehicles i've ever had with the vertical door pull design. i like it, but using the other style every day across 2 other vehicles, it just doesn't matter to me.

I think the only reason to stick to the first gen would be the looks. Reading and watching all the reviews of the 2nd gen, it will be a mechanically superior car.

I do prefer the first gen looks, especially the fender humps, but I don’t think the 2nd gen is a bad looking car and the looks wouldn’t stop me buying a 2nd gen if I was in the market. I am looking forward to seeing it in person, I think it will look better than in the photos.

Also the amount of mods to your first gen car would be a factor in not upgrading too.

It is not a bad looking car, but it lacks the old saying "built by passion not by committee". Little things like the fender humps or the manual A/C with the option to delete in entry level grades or the analog display cluster or the buttonless steering wheel and so on.

Normally I might agree, but in this case they've only improved the car. I've owned 3 miatas, and a first year FRS. I'm all for what you're talking about and I know where you're coming from.

Here with the GR86, they marginally increased the weight, gave us the engine we wanted, and still kept the soul of the car. The fender humps are still there, take a look at any review of the car. There is the RZ trim confirmed for Japan which removes AC, duckbill spoiler, badging, and center infotainment, and gives it steel wheels for those looking for a cheap entry for R&D or motorsports. The only thing you mentioned that was true is the display cluster, but even that has the enthusiast in mind. It gives us oil temperature, tire pressure, etc, all while being gimmick free. In normal mode the digital cluster even mimics an analog gauge to give "purists" even less to complain about.

Small rant because it sucks to hear complaints about things that either don't exist, or aren't an issue, especially when Toyota did an incredible job on the GR86.

I agree 100%, realistically this refresh could not have gone much better than it did.
