Way more Honda Civic-ish than I'd imagined it would be. As soon as I saw the taillamps I couldn't unsee all the Civic-ish styling cues. Not a complaint per se, however, any fears of buyer's remorse I had for buying a 2020 were all for naught.

Only two seats. Also rules out the Supra.

The overall effect is not really Civic like in my eyes but more standardized Subaru cues. The sizes vary but the design remains the same.

I'd like to know if they fixed the most annoying thing about the interior ever:
The fact that the sliding seats don't have any sort of ratchet/locking mechanism to return them to their last setting (or at least hold them so they don't slam into your ribs when you're reaching into the backseat to load/unload) was a big oversight in terms of daily usage - it's something that my buddy's 1988 EF Civic hatchback already had.... |

2.4L engine... time for me to get back in to a 240... I mean BRZ!
Also, my first thought was the rear end looks incredibly like a Z4. |

While everyone's oohing and aahing about the nice looking seats, which are an attractive update of the foam mold of the excellent Scion and do look nice... I'm more interested to see those door rails, with 50% more rigidity one way and even more the other. The high strength steel is on the topside, where weight savings is most important.

First model years always have bugs. We'll see what bugs this one has in a couple of years.

I like the interior better, especially the center console and stack.

Engineers figure out how to make things less expensive when they iterate designs. They could simplify the processing of any number of parts or assembly processes to basically cover for higher cost of other components. They can also decontent certain things that customers don’t find valuable to make room in the budget for things people do value. If they figured out how to use common parts from an existing product, they can reduce overall cost there. I’ve literally been in benchmarking activities on new automotive production projects where we have done those exact things. Our cost reduction activity doesn’t change what we charge for the car, though. The price of the car is market driven. We get a cost target for our unit and we make it happen through process reduction, automation, and feedback to designers that could allow us to build it cheaper but achieve the same function targets. If we can get beyond that cost target, great, a pat on the back for the team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
