The ots tune will take care of it

Here's what you need to know, the check engine light comes on due to a P0420 code that appears called catalyst inefficiency or something like that. The OFT Stage 2 UEL tune disables that so no light will appear, you have nothing to worry about if you get the combination.

If you're going UEL header, you should read some more reviews on this forum. Generally Borla is not highly regarded here, and I'm not sure about the FT86sf header.

What I do know firsthand that the OFH sounds and performs great, bang for the buck is high there. Also JDL UEL sounds and performs, lifetime warranty, just a bit more pricey. (I've owned both)
I've also read good things about the Tomei/Gruppe S header (pretty much same thing).
Regardless of your header choice, the OFT off the shelf tunes will work for you. You can read up on customizing your own tune as well to suit whatever header/fuel you're running. It's also got super helpful features such as real time display and datalogging.

Oh also, I wouldn't bother with the front pipe/overpipe unless you're going for every single last bit of HP. From what I've heard, for a daily driver it's a lot more noise/rasp, and not a huge power gain.

This will be solved very soon with a new front pipe that is in development by a certain company

Recently put a gruppe-s UEL and Berk catted frontpipe on my frs, Noise is pretty manageable. Got the car with the trd catback already on it. 6th gear cruising is really quiet.
Edit: i would not be too worried about the custom tune, i am running on the openflash stage 2 and it seems pretty sorted out.

I am a little late to the party but I have a borla UEL and it works but its nothing fancy. quality is less then what I expected from them, but I bought mine when they first came to the market. As far as tunes go find a good E tuner and get it done that way. Thats what I did and I could not be happier. I would also recommend the JDL header if you want quality

I speak from experience, on my 6th,(and last!) header.

The only reason to get a catted header is if your racetrack requires it, since even an aftermarket catted header is still illegal in all 50 states. Just hang onto your stock header and front pipe and reinstall it every two years. I have been tuning with the OFT for years, and I finally got a UEL header. Hands down, get a UEL for a daily driver. It gives better part-throttle acceleration than an EL header. After all, you can't drive full-throttle everywhere, can you? I got the Tomei Expreme UEL, which is exactly the same as the Gruppe-S UEL, but I paid more. I would suggest buying the OFT, and the Gruppe-S UEL and over-pipe combo, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81839 , and I'll send you my latest "Shredder" OFT tune for free.

Shredder tunes? What has been modified in them that makes them special? Are the Cal Ids compatible with autos more specifically D00D?

Why the Gruppe-S UEL over the OFH?

Just sent you a PM. I'm trying not to hijack this thread. My point was that instead of spending money on a tune designed to work best with one Intake/Exhaust setup, instead get an OFT and a good quality header/over-pipe combo. Then re-tune for free with the OFT for any other change you might make to your Intake/Exhaust setup.

I personally spent more $ on a Tomei Expreme UEL because I like the cast collector much better than any other welded collector. I feel it offers less restriction and a better reflection point for harmonic tuning. Unfortunately I didn't find out that the Gruppe-S UEL is the same but cheaper until after I bought my Expreme UEL header. It's like I'm giving you money telling you about this.
