Lol if it's not science then what is it? Politics? Religion? Sensitive personal feelings, freedom, and bullshittery? A lot of things are not FDA approved and people consume them like hotcakes.

Also, poking a hole in your logic, you tell us not to believe it yet because 'the science isn't totally in yet.' Yet you firmly believe we will have to get boosters? Boom, logic invalidated!

If your body can compensate for some original strain you are infected with, great. But if it takes too long to develop the antibodies the virus could mutate into something you have more difficulty dealing with. The early strain dies off, but that just leaves the new strain to kick your ass. Then you pass it off to someone biologically similar to you and it kicks their ass, even though the virus strain you received originally isn't that big of a deal to either of you.

Perhaps that person was vaccinated against the original strain but you weren't. You, by being unvaccinated, allowed the virus time to multiply and mutate, while that other person reduced your risk by taking steps to prevent that mutation. Basically unvaccinated people are volunteering to be a new Patient 0.
I thought the vaccine didn't cover mutations?

Last spring some morons at UT Austin (I think) had a covid party. They got together and invited one or more known Covid positive people. You know, just to party and see who could catch it.

A month later a young fella who attended was in Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. He told a nurse, "you know I thought this virus stuff was a joke. I guess it's not." Then he died.

I really don't understand your mindset. I'm trying to be as gentle with this as I can, but you make that difficult. Say you knew with certainty the virus would not harm you, but that you could still infect other people if you caught it. You have no way of knowing if the first clause is true. The second is known with certainty to be so. What about them? If you contract it, you can still infect others who the virus might not be so kind to. They could die. So, what I hear you saying is, "hey - I am confident I'll do fine if I catch this thing and I don't give a Phlying Philistine Phuck about anybody else. If you catch it from me tough shit."

Is that what the Queen reference meant? Another One Bites the Dust You would enjoy being an agent of the harshest form of natural selection? You do realize you are making the strongest possible argument in favor of stringent Vaccine Passports, right?

Edit: I've gone back and forth on the Passport idea. You are getting very close to selling me on them.
Wow haha I was talking about another vaccine that got recalled but you would try to spin like that into a personal attack wouldn't you? Fell a little far off your high horse eh?

So two points here
1. Vaccines typically don't cover all mutations of a family of viruses. Hence the flu vaccine needs to be redeveloped every year (and I understand it to have less testing than the covid one). The covid-19 vaccines should all cover a spread of mutations as long as the certain properties of the virus remain unaffected. It's mutations to those targeted properties I am concerned with.

2. A mutated strain comes from normal run of the mill strains. That's how evolution works. New features appear at random, and if they are beneficial, they are more likely to be passed down. A mutated strain that is unaffected by the antibodies produced by the vaccine is extremely beneficial to the survival and proliferation of the virus. If you are vaccinated, you have a quicker response to the initial exposure to the old strain, such that it drastically reduces the amount of reproductive cycles the virus has to mutate.

Quick refresher on evolution:

OK. I officially have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You do not respond positively to attempts at civility. You do not seem to have the faintest idea what you are talking about. You do not seem to have an sense of the responsibilities inherent in living in a civilized society. You can follow your fellow antis into the status of "Not Worth My Time." I believe is was @Ultramaroon who noted that he did not classify you among the deplorables. He was mistaken.

To my colleagues in this thread. I am washing my hands of pilot. He is, as far as I am concerned, ineducable. You of course may do as you wish. My recommendation is to stop throwing good keystrokes after bad.

There is distinct difference between playing devil's advocate and trolling. You and Tommy are simply trolls. It's not a function of feelings it's the hammering home of the adage about mudwrestling pigs. On the upside I now have a firm position on Vaccine Passports.
