Not too sticky tire recommendation?
I'm looking for a set of tires that aren't super sticky so I can break the rear loose on stock power, but will break grip progressively. I'm also planning on doing some AutoX for fun this season so not complete woodplanks (not looking to be competitive, just want to learn the car) . Decent rain performance would be a plus as well.
Not huge factor, but I prefer a stiffer sidewall that puts a bit more burden on mechanical grip.

GT Radial Champiro SX2 in the stock size: Good grip but not a 200tw tire, they start making noise well before they lose grip so you will not be surprised when approaching the limit. They are track tested, as they were/are the contingency tire for the 86 Cup, and cheap to boot. They also do well in the rain. I'm on my second set.

I bought my Continental ECS from 4wheelonline last year. For daily driving, these tires are excellent. Wet performance is another strong point. Went to an autocross last summer and they did fairly well, although I can say that the PS4S has more grip.

I tried out bfg rival s 1.5 this weekend with stock power, 245/40/17, no problems breaking the rear end loose, no problem when I use re71rs either. If it feels grounded to the ground you can drive faster.
Falken rt660s would be my choice for you, if you're real nervous about sticky tires for whatever reason the 615ks are a step down. I have ECS now and the sidewalls are the softest I've put on the car, pss and oe primacy and indy 500s were stiffer, ecs are good tires though, I think the tire you are asking for is the ps4s but I think you'd be happy on the falken 660 which are way cheaper and are actually competitive. |

Most of the people I know prefer sticky tires. You may want to check out Goodyear Viva 3 A/S tires and Falken Azenis RT615K+.

I tracked on the ECS on non-time-trial days though. They're pretty good, obviously a couple/few seconds behind the best 200tw tires. Hold up well to 15 minute lapping sessions, gonna use them this year as well for non-TT days. |

I had to time-trial on the Contis last event last year as I flat-spotted a Hoosier to the cords (doh!). First non-podium in forever :'( Anyway, looking at results I would have won T40 class (which I was legal for with the Contis) by *20 seconds*!
https://www.comscc.org/events/result...?id=2020-11-01 Yeah, they're pretty good... |
