Park out in left field as much as possible. Keep small children with riding toys away from the car. Don't cheat on your girlfriend.

Do those 3 things and you're doing about all you can to keep your car in good shape

At some point it just becomes compulsive and not worth the hassle. Just realize that these things will happen

had a new roof on my house and cars in unusual place. i backed my 2016 frs into my wife's yaris. small scratch on each. it was bound to happen, too bad i did it!!!!

at least insurance paid for 2/3 of the new roof. i felt worse about the small scratch on the frs than the $6,500 deductible i paid on the roof.

Eh idk. It's not irrational to want your property to be pristine. Especially if you're actively paying 100s a month for it.

Some woman door dinged my wife's SUV and she watched it happen. It wasn't bad, but the act of witnessing it makes it worse. I actually had to physically hold her back and talk her down to avoid her ripping the idiot a new one. If it had been a man, I probably would've let her have at it.

Point is, someone else harming my property is a rational thing to be upset about in my opinion.

But it is irrational to expect something that actually get's used to remain "pristine". The very act of using it means wear and tear. Door dings, flying rocks, bird shit, even the sun are all going to happen and to get pissed enough to have to be held back when they do is the very definition of irrational. Not saying you need to enjoy such things but they are going to happen so you may as well learn to live with it no matter how much you are paying a month.

I agree completely. What I mean is it's rational to want to have your property pristine, but it's irrational to think that will always be pristine.

It's rational to be upset when someone hurts your property, it's irrational to think that it will never happen.

But what is the rationale to be rational about the irrationality of rations?

So is it wrong to wash a dirty car once a week? I like a clean car. I think that's rational, I never expected my car to remain pristine. But I also like to clean and protect my paint whenever possible and maintain it mechanically the best I can. Just my way. For some they think this is not rational.

When I first got my car i was obsessed with keeping it clean and scratch free etc.
Then i accidentally ran over a cement parking brick thing and gave up.

It's a losing battle, and if you drive it daily, you're risking it getting far worse than scratches every single time you drive it.

Just enjoy the car, scratches and dings suck, but they happen, even if you're the greatest driver on earth.

Not talking the same level. There is a mile of difference between protecting paint, keeping it clean and maintained and expecting it to be pristine.
