Best replacement TOB

My TOB is going out. I know that Toyota have an updated bearing ( different grease).
Are there any other OE suppliers offering as good or better quality?
I’d rather do this job only once in my lifetime.

Unfortunately with a manual transmission, the TOB is a wear item. Just like the clutch- you can't expect to never have to replace it. The updated part should last a very long time

There is no aftermarket TOB. updated bearing is your one and only option.

I upgraded to an OS Giken clutch when my throwout bearing went out. The kit is expensive but it included an entirely differently designed TOB, clutch fork and clutch line. Also with how light the assembly is made it worth it in my mind.

Go to your local subie dealership or toyota, or call them, and place the order through them. I suppose you could get one on amazon, but I'd rather get it right from my local dealer because I dont want to wind up with some weird third party part. Oem parts are ALWAYS the highest quality parts there are. Aftermarket engine air filters as well as aftermarket oil filters are trash. Nobody here will say a simple positive thing about k&n filters.

Is there a production date that the "updated TOB" began to ship with? I've had no such problem with my TOB so far in my car (2015 MY, 08/2014 production month), but I see OP has a 2016.

Wear item perhaps now a days, but after 49 years driving standards each up or exceeding 300,000 kl. I’ve never had to replace a clutch or TOB.
At only 60,000 kl., and to be looking at this repair you might understand my concern.

An aftermarket air filter must have done you wrong for such a pointed tangent. lol

I 100% agree with you. While I've had to replace them on a couple previous cars, it was due to them just having been driven hard and who knows how the previous owners treated them as well, I certainly drive my cars hard so I know it's my fault when something breaks.

Regardless of the past, these cars have a penchant for chewing up the TOB. Each platform has unique needs and stressors - for older BMWs, it's the expansion tank and cooling system. Why would anyone think a clutch driven fan or expansion tank is a wear item? You will, when the car overheats because your fan grenaded and took out the rad.

Or a more obvious example - why would headlight brackets be a wear item? Well ask anyone who has owned an NA Miata. When their headlight keeps going down randomly, they'll have torn that thing out and replaced the whole assembly.

I know my point likely falls on deaf ears, but understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the platform is part of the fun, no? Unless your platform is the RX8 and the weakness is the engine.

The OS Giken TOB is a significant upgrade, but only works with OS Giken clutches due to the stack height.

Nope; it depends on the pressure plate used, the number of clutch discs, etc.

However, they will all rev up and down a bit faster than stock, due to the reduced inertia of the clutch setup.

My car uses a hard cover; the soft cover would have a lighter pedal and a winder engagement window, at the cost of reduced clamping capacity.

Even that reduced capacity would easily handle FI, and be more than enough for NA.
