I know one thing I always grappled with when I considered "ordering" a new car was the fact that it usually meant paying more. A dealer might lop a nice chunk off MSRP for a car that was sitting. Discounts were very hit or miss with an ordered car.

I took a color I didn't like for my TDI wagon because of it, was priced out of buying a BMW 3 wagon a few years later because of it. Then I really lucked out with my Subaru finding a dealer that sold ordered cars at invoice without being in VIP program.

FF a bunch of years to today and MSRP is the goal so one more reason being able to "order" a car today is huge for an auto maker. The main reasons you wouldn't do it before are leveled off - the wait (you have to anyhow) and the price.

I found a new GR86 easy in comparison to most. After striking out a few times at close by dealership's, I found a very rural dealership (city population less than 20,000) with a built, inbound GR86 Premium, 6 speed available and eta of less than two months. No markup over MSRP except a document fee of $150. A deposit of $1500 and everything in writing. The system is working ok for me. The hard part is waiting up to two months. The good part is having to drive it home over 150 miles on winding country roads after I take delivery.

Wish I could say the same thing here in CA. The market here is insane and everybody is marking up atleast $5-6K ontop of MSRP for a "Protection Package" Which I kindly asked what is included in that package and got no reply. Seems like the only protection it is providing is the padding to the dealers pockets

Crazy!
I had only one big dealer from a big city quote me 5K over MSRP, I regret to see it’s not an exception but a rule in other areas as well. Hopefully Toyota will build them for many years to satisfy demand.

"Ground" status on Toyota Tracker

Hi everyone -

I am lined up to get a GR86, and I put a $500 non-refundable deposit down to secure it. Obviously I am excited for it to arrive, and I have been keeping an eye on its progress.

Today (4/12/23) for the first time its status changed to "Ground," but it also says "Estimated delivery between April 13, 2023 and April 22, 2023."

What is the significance, if any, of its status changing to "Ground" on Toyota Tracker?

I just reached out to the dealer yesterday and they said they did not yet have it, and I don't want to bother them again, so I am asking this here.

Thanks in advance

They'll have it tomorrow, Friday latest I would guess. Congrats man, perfect timing!

^Not necessarily, my car sat at the railhead for almost 3 weeks waiting for an available truck to be able to take it to the dealer.

They will call you once the car is at the dealer and set up a time to come finalize any loan paperwork and pick up the car. Don't worry, they want to make the sale just as bad as you want to get the car.

Was its status “G” that whole time?

In most cases it seems like it goes to G once it’s on the truck. But maybe it’s once it’s ready for a truck. Some people didn’t go to G until after it was at the dealer! Major life mysteries.

No idea. Once mine landed at the port, the tracking updates went dead in the "MySubaru Account."

I just know the dealer called me to tell me it was off the train at the railhead and they were trying to find some trucks, to deliver the cars. They were waiting on 37 other cars beside mine.

Ahh I missed that you had a BRZ. Subaru doesn't do the A/F/G status thing, that I know of. With Toyota, "G" status, which Open Loop's car has reached, generally means it's on a truck to the dealer.

Yeah, they do it a bit differently. Which seems horrifically inefficient to have to separate systems for vehicles coming out of the same plant.

Although maybe it's the same system and they just have different UI's using the same API calls, who knows.

Got an email from the dealer today saying "YOUR NEW VEHICLE HAS ARRIVED!!!" Made arrangements to pick it up this afternoon. Steel Premium Manual. Very excited.

I have been away from this forum for some years... but came back when I was rear ended last month in my FR-S. Insurance adjuster said it was Totaled . I found a dealership that had the Trueno Blue Premium coming in and put a deposit on it. Dealership said it'll be here mid to late april. To my surprise came in last weekend and shes home now. So I didnt really have a hard time securing one, just happened a little fast.

Best of luck to those waiting... I'd say the wait is worth it.

Congrats on the purchase! How much was your "market adjustment fee"?
