Additional pics of 86 GR parts

Seats (note the airbag mounted externally on the seat frame):

Shocks look like standard OE design.

Wheels, rear are definitely slightly wider

The rear diffuser + muffler was on display by itself, here's some closer shots of it.

Interior shot of car, seats look very nice in this setting.

So what does all that add to the car, like $10k?

Those seats are nice looking! But Sportster CS seats are so wide and unsupportive.

MSRP in Japan is JPY 4,968,000. For comparison a 2018 Toyota 86 GT "Limited Black Package" is 3,423,600. So for approx. ~$12k USD you get the special parts on the GR.

What fool is going to spend 40K for that car? 6K on running gear and 6K in the power train would have been a "special edition".

Again, using an American mentality trying to justify a Japan-only product is like Americans trying to conceptualize the idea of kei-cars sold outside of Japan.

Call them fools all you want, I think Toyota knows their domestic market better than us.

I like the seats. The whole "gazoo racing" thing and badging is kind of lame, but... at least you know all the safety stuff would work like stock.

You think that’s expensive, you should see how expensive was 14R60... now THAT’s most expensive 86 Toyota ever made. So in that concept, GR86 is a good price for all the stuff it comes with.

But of course, you can buy stock form and mod it the way you want and prob comes out more your liking... that’s up to each and their own.

Btw GR86 seats are Recaro Sportster CS, right? Same as tS. I wonder why Toyota went with Racaro instead of Bride? Cuz iirc TRD seats are Bride Stradia II... maybe cuz can’t equip side airbag?

Yah, forgot that was Japan only. It would sell here as well, though.

yah people forget these cars are more of the "we've modded it for you with full warranty", which is very popular in Japan.

As for the seats, who knows... a lot of parts selection comes down to politics within the industry.

Plus, TRD and Gazoo Racing are as different as one can be when it comes to collaboration. TRD is notoriously secretive, GR is about as open as one can be.
