Guess we'll have to see if bethesda goes the same way of dice, bioware, rare and lionhead studios to name a few.
You've probably missed Fallout 76, which is the main reason why they're getting so much shit. Poorly optimized netcode (you're running multiplayer on an engine designed for single player), broken promises regarding microtransactions, pay to win systems, the ability to access the debug room at some point (in an online only game), and in general just be shit value for the money, never mind the fact people paid $40 for the game itself. There's actually a lot more reasons than that, but these are the ones that stand out for me. Not sure how much has changed since then.

Oh yeah, don't forget the Bethesda glitches that plague almost every game they make.

Honestly, game plan is to wait until Black Friday anyway because I'm building a new rig with an LGA 1200 motherboard and ideally an i9 10900K (without the jacked up inflation), but I'll probably just purchase an i7 10700K instead since Rocket Lake is supposed to be coming out sometime next year.

Anything to watch out for?
AMD is launching new cpus here in november after the October reveal. 3000 series chips might get discounted. I feel like Intel may have to drop prices since they have nothing to respond with for quite awhile as you mention. The 3080 wont be discounted. But the 3070 will be out at 500 in October. You will probably see discounts on other stuff those like ssds and ram.

while assetto corsa for ps4 has been great, im looking to switch to pc for this game.

no experience or knowledge of pc gaming, would really only be using a pc for this game (not really into anything other than racing) was thinking of googling "gaming pc" and buying the cheapest one.

convenience wise was thinking of getting a gaming laptop, but would that be enough to support a game like assetto corsa? what with downloading all the big mods other users upload, playing online with other people, graphics, etc. in terms of computing power er whatever? (no idea what im saying here folks)

tldr: never had a gaming pc, want to download and play online all the cool mods other people people make in assetto corsa, what's the best deal and which computer should i get to achieve that.

thanks!

Ok, first question is what level of graphics are you willing to deal with. That determines half or more of the cost right there. I don't know much about PS4 hardware, but I imagine it is relatively high in terms of display power.

Then look at the recommended system requirements for the game. You need at least that. Disk space is pretty cheap if you have a hdd (spinny disk hard drive) instead of an ssd (solid state), bit it will be slower. See link below, assuming that is the right game.

https://www.assettocorsa.net/system-requirements/

Based on that, you will want at least an Intel i5 (or AMD equivalent) running Windows 10, I would recommend at least 8GB ram and at least a 120GB hard drive as Windows takes up a lot of space. Now, that is going to look like pretty much any PC out there. The difference is in cooling, graphics, and peripherals. You will probably be fine with any gaming graphics card from the last few years on AC. I run it at 4k on a GTX 1080 which seems to handle it fine.

Note that the cooling and power supply on cheaper systems with these specs are likely to be loud and of lower quality overall. I would expect to spend about about $1k on a moderately inexpensive gaming desktop all together. Maybe a bit more depending on what peripherals you want. Gaming laptops are going to be closer to $1.5-$2k.

Plenty of sites like this to help you out too.

PS4 is based on the Radeon HD7000 series, highly customized of course.

For a basic system equivalent to a ps4 pro/xsx in terms of graphics horsepower you're looking at approx $500 (i3 or ryzen 5 ~100, motherboard ~75, 16GB of ram ~50, power supply ~50, rx580 class graphics card, 500gig SSD, and case). Keyboard, mouse and monitor are additional. Add another $100 to get a bit better motherboard and power supply to give you legs to upgrade in the future (i.e a b550 motherboard with decent vrm).

You can get laptops with a ryzen 4000 series CPU and a 1660ti for around ~$1000. Anything with a 1660ti and higher will play assetto corsa.

Also remember there is such a thing as building too cheap.
Then 6 months down the line you run into a bottleneck.

In this case I'd go with at least a 1TB nvme drive for the boot drive if you don't plan on having more than one drive in the computer.

Spend as much as you can on a monitor because this is the only component that isn't out of date by next week. My current monitor was released 5 years ago and there is still no need/motivation for me to even consider changing.

I still really like my 4 year old 4k/UHD monitor, and my wife is very happy with her 6 year old monitors as well. Only problem is my power button broke, but in the on position so it's fine (backlight shuts off when nothing is giving a signal).

Speaking of which, anything 28" and up you should be looking at greater than FHD (1920x1080) resolution IMO. You typically sit closer to a pc screen than a TV, so you are more likely to notice pixelation on larger screens. Below 28" FHD will be fine, but you could upgrade if you had more budget.

Friendly pedant attack incoming.

I disagree. I can almost/just make out the pixels on my 27" 2560x1440 monitor at (too) close viewing distance. I think that should read 27" and up.

Sincerely, yours truly, best regards, all the best,
Me.

Funnily enough, Assetto Corsa w/ mods at max settings is one of the main reasons why I'm trying to build a new computer in the first place...
