For anyone else asking, Longo Toyota is the best location in So Cal to get the J02 recall done. They have done the most and has the best track record for completions without engine failure last time I checked.

I don't have the receipt but from what i remember it was around 300 or little more for the clutch, throw out bearing and flywheel resurface.

Have a 2013 with the recall. I can't register my car in CA without doing the recall first. However the car has a turbo on it and nothing is wrong so far with the engine. Kinda don't want to fix whats not broken. Anyone with a similar situation? Can I just be nice with the dealership and have them say the recall was "completed" so I can register my car to drive.

Sigh... It appears I'll be joining the folks with issues after the J02 recall work was done. Roughly 125 miles after the work was done my FRS died so I had it towed to Northridge Toyota and dropped off in their service lane for them to look at in the morning. I'll post more issue details in the appropriate thread in the next day or two.

I do appreciate the fact that Northridge Toyota keeps their lot open so you can drop off your car after hours and leave the key and related information in a lock box for them to look at in the morning. I guess I'll find out in the next few days what they mean when they say they warranty their work...

I'm from out of state and have just moved to California in the last couple of weeks. I'm seeing people saying they can't register their car until this service is performed. I've got the Subaru variant. Any recommendations for a dealership in the Los Angeles area that will take the car and has a good track record?

You can trust Dando's opinion.

So Northridge Toyota dealership and mother Toyota state that my bearings are spun, but not as a result of the J02 recall work they did a few weeks ago. They also say this would not normally be covered by their warranty, but for this one time Toyota will cover it as a one time customer satisfaction deal at no cost to me.

I know correlation is not causation, but it feels like this sort of thing is happening to enough people after the J02 recall work that there is a better than average chance the two are directly related. So the "it's not a result of the J02 work" answer doesn't sit well with me. That being said, the dealer and Toyota are covering it and, in my opinion, are doing the right thing.

Just got mine done a few weeks ago at kearny mesa subaru in san diego. i was assured they have done tons of these (and i was on the waitlist for over a year) and they had had very few come back.

1. How long did the repair take? - dropped the car off on Monday morning, got it back Thursday evening
2. Was a courtesy car provided for the duration of the repair? - brand new subaru forester. did not like parking that thing living in the city but it was nice. made me think "damn is my brz really this loud" lol
3. What other parts were replaced with no additional labor (spark plug, etc)? nothing
3. What other parts were replaced with additional labor? paid about $120 for spark plugs (only about $40 labor charge) and $220 to fix a leaky cam cover. they recommended battery and tires too but i'm not buying that from the stealership lmao
4. Was the dealer mod-friendly? i don't have anything that would cause too many problems but they did not have any issues with my full blitz intake and catback exhaust
5. Did they know what they were doing? i'm about 700 miles out. trying to get to that magic 1000 mile number to know i'm in the clear. I've been sending it a lot just in case.
