naw man, this shop near my house does tuning for cheap! And their work is great! The car ran perfect for 2 weeks and then blew up from me running too much boooooost!!!

Seriously though, I don't understand why people go with the cheapest tuners and expect good results.

To provide the best chance for you/engine boosted-run a tune from a reputable tuner.

Also, I'd love to see #'s for how many 2013/2014/2015/2016 are boosted. It might be that there are more of the longer term owners/guys picking up older cars and they can afford to boost it vs. "new" cars.

I've got a 2013 BRZ that I took delivery of June 2012. I'm just a tad over 77,000mi and have been boosted for a little over 10,000mi if memory serves.

Over the life of the car, probably 40 autocrosses, 10 track days, 2 trips to tail of the dragon, and a lot of abusive city driving.

I'm on the Edelbrock kit, and solved the hesitation through a Delicious tune after a few revisions. Also now on e85, making 320whp stock block (for now).

Only issues I've had with the car were #1 coil pack replacement (still NA), and driverside axle replacement (boosted/e85).

Glad to see you got your hesitation problems sorted. Just curious, what exactly did Delicious do to fix it? And don't say E85...

Not real sure which rev did away with it. There has been some throttle mapping changes, among other things, and they all likely played some role in it.

after reading this it seems like this hesitation or hiccup is something that occurs sometimes in boosted scenarios... If it helps I get hiccups mostly when engine is a little cold and not fully warmed up and it hiccups at or around 3000 rpm. I'm running the c38/e85 moto east tune. every since I got the kit i have the hiccups. however once it's warmed up it's like it doesn't exist. and the car will only hiccup if the throttle is in a specific spot... it's a little strange.

So interesting that people are finally mentioning the "hickup" on these cars.

My 13 series 10 has had the "hickup" when stock, OFT stage 1, and OFT stage 2 with UEL. I put up logs and discussions but no response. If someone figures it out someday, please let me know!

I was worried about reliability of my 13 so I ended up buying a 14 that is now supercharged. I'm planning to hit 30K on the 13 before exploring any FI options for it.

Most people are doing fine with first gen FRS/BRZs that are boosted.

If part of your concern is what you saw in that TJ's kid video, ignore him. That kid is an absolute moron. I had a brief interaction with him and that smurfwrx guy at Subiefest last year and was fairly confident I developed brain cancer after hearing them speak.

I've watched Sportsguy's build from the day he was just putting coilovers on the car, running the AVO kit, then going the custom route.

If I end up in an 86 again, I'm probably going to follow his footsteps.

He's exactly right. If you're going to do FI, make sure you have ALL of the supporting mods for it. If I could dish out the money, I'd redo the internals too.

My buddy is still running his P&L stage 2 turbo rocket bunny FR-S at 500+ rwhp on flex fuel to this day and he's got a 2013 FR-S.

My hiccup finally went away when Hal from @Dynosty sorted me out. I couldn't believe how smooth he made it. Not suggesting he give up his secret but maybe he could shed some light on what exactly that hiccup is.

Sure would be nice, it's a PITA. Every shift the car stumbles going into the next gear making it buck around like you screwed up the shift. Gets pretty annoying after a while.

I bought my car in 2012, one of the first in NC at the time. started with a perrin n/a tune then i boosted last year and cracked a valve spring just after 3k miles on the car. i am james martin tuned. i think the issues arising were due to tuners as james explained in detail what he has figured out and what others have been slow to do so. driveability of my car felt stock/excellent.

hks gt supercharged with tons of supporting mods.

currently in the process of rebuilding the engine from the valve spring failure/retainer failure.
