Perrin CAI's...

Just noticed that they've added the "Big MAF" version, based on their dynos the bigger maf housing gives very similar gains to the smaller maf housing.

Any input on if the bigger tube is worth getting? My car is going to be staying N/A for a while (possibly forever), so I'm doubting the bigger MAF housing will be of much benefit?

I'm also just leaning towards a good panel filter over the CAI portion, but this could all be good info for others as well.

The bigger MAF is of benefit to people who have a FI kit AND can use the Perrin CAI (e. g. AVO, Innovate) AND plan on making big power, (north of 400 WHP).

At high PSI, a bigger MAF housing is required to be able to keep using the MAF for tuning and not need Speed Density.

Edit: Per @PERRIN_Chris post, the bigger MAF housing CAI does make more power and should be selected as long as you have means to tune the MAF, like @jamesm stated. My apologies for adding some info that was not completely accurate.

If you are planning on tuning the car before or at the same time as adding the intake, I'd go for the big MAF intake. There really isn't anything to loose going with the bigger intake, as long as it's tuned correctly, you won't lose anything at lower RPMS or cruising. We have the MAF scaling available on our website for free that can be copied and pasted into your map!

We have proven that it makes more power than the normal PERRIN intake here.

If you don't plan on ever getting a tune though, you're going to want to do the normal size intake.

If you have any questions, let me know!

i'll add that you don't necessarily have to pay someone for a tune to run a big maf. if you have a tactrix cable (i happen to have one for sale lol) you could do it with brzedit or romraider much, much cheaper than a vendor tune. oft would allow you to do it and use ots maps as well, or dyno tune in the future. ecutek is probably not a good choice if that is your only goal, but if you're wanting to do more tuning later it's where all the fun is these days.

if you're changing to any intake it will serve you well to check and likely scale the maf afterwards, whether it's 'big' or not. really even if it's still stock you would benefit from it. this is incredibly simple to do for anyone who can copy and paste things around excel, and will improve your drivability a bunch, specifically around very low throttle and parking lot speeds.

in the case of the perrin big maf they give you the calibration to start from, but you'll still want to confirm and fine tune it if necessary.

I'll definitely be tuning it at the same time, so that's not a concern. My question was more if it was worth the extra cost over the regular CAI which it seems it might be.

With the "Stage 3" setup that we offer, the big MAF intake made roughly 4-5WHP more over the original intake we introduced.

Now, I know that isn't a direct answer for you, but your question is not really for me to answer. The gain to me personally, would be worth the extra money. I want the most amount of power that I can squeeze out of an engine. If you are the same way, then it's totally worth it

Keep in mind, when we have sales running, the price of the big MAF, is very good! You can also shoot me a PM if you have any further questions.

How often does the filter on your cold air intake need to be cleaned? Because taking off the front bumper every time the filter needs to be cleaned can be pretty tedious..

We recommend cleaning it every 5-10K miles. I do agree about the bumper being a bit tedious, but stay tuned as we are working on something to see if we can help ease the pain of that step!

That would go a long way in convincing me to pick up the CAI portion. I've got 45k km's in 19 months (about 2500km's per month) so having to pull the bumper every 3-4 months could get tedious.

Sounds like I should be patient and wait until spring before pulling the trigger on anything!

Yes, that would be very helpful. The black portion that clips onto the bumper wears out after several on-and-off removals, same with the bumper causing it to sag.
Did you guys take my advice and start making those quick-release button bonnet clips yet?

Can you access the filter from the bottom if you remove the under tray?

It's really not too bad after your first time and you learn where everything is.
I can probably take the bumper off in ~10-15 mins
