Vortech charged, Perrin tuned. Review and dyno.

So, since everyone loves to hear me talk, here is some more!

This is my initial review, report and dyno for my vortech supercharged BRZ running on a Perrin tune.

Go fast mods:
- Vortech standard kit (9psi)
- Perrin tune
- Perrin 2.5" catted/resonated header back
- Perrin crank pulley
- other mods won't affect hp
- still on stock tires

First off, I'd like to introduce my brand new brand name "driveway performance laboratories", which I thought appropriate to label my mechanical activities. Secondly, I'd like to make it known that I violated everything Jeff Perrin asked me not to do in the first week, since he is making sure my tune is dialed in remotely. Sorry Jeff! It's like telling someone "don't push that red button".

Starting with purchase and install, the guys/ladies down at Perrin are hands down amazing. The most humble and welcoming group I've met in a long time. Jeff personally talked me through some quirks of install and tips, since he knew I would be tackling the install myself and it was my first go at it. They are more interested in getting the product out on the street than trying to take all your money, and the deals the offer will continue to amaze me since I know the rent for the shop must be killer. (The effing shop is huge and one of the cleanest/nicest I've seen.).

The install was super easy, great PDF from vortech. I literally did it myself, in my driveway, no ramps, no lift, no special tools. Just a 3/8th's drill for mounting the IC brackets and a ratchet and wrench set. From first bolt off to complete and driving to get gas was right at 10 hours, but there were multiple breaks for Facebook and chasing my 1 year old, who kept stealing hose clamps. ANYONE, ANYONE, ANYONE can install this kit if you can count, measure and know your left from your right. Perrin, vortech, and myself all are willing to talk you through things via phone or email if you get stuck; however, no one can assume responsibility if you screw it up.

The kit is great! Super clean parts, a couple bits that I think could've been done better, which I have already raised the point to vortech, hopefully they follow through.

Initial driving, amazing, it is smooth like factory at idle and while driving. Full throttle feels like factory smooth, with 2L extra added to the motor. Gas mileage has barely went down for me, 26-28 city when I was NA, 25-27 at halfway through this current tank. I think highway will be mostly unharmed as well. This is of course with me behaving, after my dyno session at Drift Office today, it was down to 24mpg on the dash, just after 10-12 pulls.

So, the question everyone wants answered... "How's it feel?" ...

Answer: Fucking amazing. Like banging the head cheerleader on prom night amazing. Or two chicks at the same time amazing. Or your rich uncle dying and leaving you his inheritance amazing. I have let several people drive it and they come back with a giant smile and not wanting to give it back. Hell, I don't want to get out of the car, ever.

Here is my dyno sheet of NA untuned vs. vortech kit. I think Bob ordered his vortech today.

There is a weird drop at 6800, you can't feel it while driving. It's not specific to vortech, not only my car. It shows up on the hks supercharger also and several other cars. Jeff is currently working on it and Bob @ Drift office wants to find a fix also. The pesky torque dip WILL NOT go away on stock header, aftermarket header is a MUST on any build at all.

Should have an overlay of my car and a similarly equipped AVO car up in the next few days and hopefully we can get my Vortech car, the AVO car and an HKS car all together for same day testing next week. ;p

We are working on it. Not *all of the cars have it. I think it has to do with the stock header. It may be the ecutek software itself being weird. We gotta work to figure it out.

Does it show on your dyno? I wouldn't have noticed mine if I didn't have the graph in front of me.

Im getting hesitation up high when fuel tank is half full or below. I'm guessing its fuel cut. Hopefully my d65c pump is installed correctly. The canister is not designed for high hp setups. I thought don@accelerated and visconti working on a return system. It bothers me because I like to keep a half a tank and below Because of weight sounds dum but its what I like to do.

Yeah! The stock header has to go. I'm just grounded from buying car parts for a while

Weird. I'm still wondering why jv feels compelled to send out new fuel components, there is no need to touch any of that stuff if you're under 300whp...

John visconti never told or sold me fuel components were needed
I bought the pump. And have the injectors sitting because I have a 12psi pulley. And your not exactly correct. This is a returnless fuel system. Adding a 100hp and 9 psi. Is probably at the bubble of this stock fuel system capability. Neon srt4s needed to add return to rid of fuel ct and sustain 300whp also. If the car is fuel cutting below half tank it tells me its starving for fuel or my pump isn't installed correctly which I doubt. Not my first fuel pump

I was in your same situation a while ago, had to install the FP 5 times between JV's pump and DW65c pump. If I were you, I'd look again at the pump install.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33993

What finally solved it for me on the dw65c pump, was using 4 O rings instead of 2.
