New BRZ Gen 2

Today I bought a 2024 Ltd. This replaces a 2013 Ltd I bought 11 years ago this month. It’s something I’ve been idly thinking about for a few months.

I turn 70 on Tuesday and I thought I should get myself a nice present.

$2500 off, 2.9%!interest for 48 months. And they gave back my Michelin PS4 summer performance tires I brought along to sweeten the deal

PLess than 6300 miles on them. I should be able to sell them.

Nice car! I like the powerband improvement, way tighter handling, and the poise of the car is improved.

The steering feels a tad light/numb compared to Gen 1. It may be the PS4 tires not broken in yet. I seem to recall that when I first put them on the 2013

Transaction was smooth. Good people at the dealership. I was talking to 3 dealers. One in town and two out of town. The out of town guys were not impressive. Kinda old school car sales. No thanks. One guy kept pressing for an on-site visit. Quoted $21500 out the door. Nope, he’s leaving off some fees on that one. Refused to send a breakout. 4 hours away…? .. Pass.

It’s white. Never had a white car before. Would have liked to see a red one but none in my area. But white is fine.

Hakone Green or yellow would be tops but not to be.

Color me happy!

Been more than happy with my '13 Halo.
Specifically got white to keep the heat down on long road trips to the south.

Congratulations. Moved from a Gen1 to Gen2 3 years ago (Dec/01/21) and I am satisfied overall. Both are great cars with slightly different characteristics.

Several people mentioned about the steering feedback reduction on the new one, I did not feel much difference, but it is probably there. The main change is a new steering column that may have impacted this.

Overall the car is great, enjoy

I need to get past the breakin period before I can discover this car’s capabilities. It will be a challenge to keep the RPMs under 4,000. I found an alert function that will help.

Turned off lots of the driver assist crap. Not sure even the Premium is offered without it. But then I lose steerable headlights, heated seats, alacantra seats, 18” wheels and PS-4 tires, and more.

So there you have it.

I only drive 7500 miles a year so it will take a while to get to the 1,000 mark.

Must be patient.

Take a couple road trips, or go for a few long, fun drives to nowhere in particular. You can knock out break-in pretty quickly that way.

I too only drive my gen 2 BRZ about 7K miles a year, despite it being my daily. However, in a sunny Saturday morning I can easily do a very enjoyable 250 mile backwoods drive and still be home by lunchtime. I'll still take a drives like that at least a couple times a year just for fun.

Still have about 250 miles left break in period. Now that the holidays are past I might buzz down to a brew pub in south GA. That would get me past the 1,000 mark quickly.

Steering feel has improve a lot in the interval. Nice to be rid of the piped in engine noise. I do miss the lighter feeling of my 2013 Ltd. But I’m sure the extra ponies will make me forget that quickly.

Remember in the manual is says you can go above 4k RPMs in an "emergency situation." Just ensure everything is up to temp. It doesn't take 1000 miles for the rings to set.

I'm guessing you meant $31.5k OTD. I find it hard to believe a dealer would be selling a new car at 60% of MSRP.

Where does he say how much he paid? I must have missed it although I've read this thread over and over and the only reference to price I see is $2500 off at 2.9% for 48 months.
As for break in miles and procedures there are as many ways to do it as Carter has Liver Pills.
With my 2018 tS I drove it for a week as per the manual changing RPM's and keeping it under 4k. I had the first service done at 1k (remember I'm Canadian so it's in kilometers) Then every fall which was between 4K to 7k. I only put just over 28k (17.5k in miles) on it in over 6 years. I gradually increased the RPM's after about 2.5k and by 4k I was WOT every chance I got!
Grandson has about 36k on it now with a mix of city but mostly highway and the only problem has been broken studs when switching summer to winter wheels/tires.

I didn't say that's what he said he paid, he said that's what the out of town dealer was offering. And I responded that I find it hard to believe a dealer would make that offer, which is why I asked if it was a typo.

The $21,500 offer from the out of state dealer also included my 2013 LTD as part of the deal.

Friday I hit 1,000 miles and I enjoyed getting it beyond 4K. I did set the rpm alert to 6200 and will observe that for another 500 hundred miles.

Then it’s redline revs!

So I’ve had a bit of fun with it this weekend. Still being careful as it’s cold here- down to low 40’s high 30’s during the day. And this week it’s getting a good bit colder. Summer tires don’t like that.

But we did have a day in the high 50’s this weekend that let me have some fun. This car is quite a bit faster than my 2013. The engine note is also nicer (I had the dealership turn off the electronic engine noise. ). I can feel the extra weight this car has and I miss that bit of nimbleness in the handling due that. And I’m still getting used to the video game dashboard. I’m not crazy about the graphic presentation of RPMs. Prefer round gauges with a needle. I guess I’m an analog Luddite.

I’m pleased with the car. It was a good move for me. Gas mileage has been the same as with my 2013 but I’m also driving it like an old lady. No doubt those numbers will decrease when I’m past 1,500 mile mark and have fairer days.



And I miss the CD player. I suppose I’ll load up songs on my phone and play them via Bluetooth. Still, I wish there was a factory option for CD player.

Nothing wrong with analog! I remember my 2018 tS with great fondness every time my grandson visits, (it’s his now). But, I do not regret getting its replacement. You can’t get much more analog than a Caterham Super Seven. J

A Caterham?! Wow! That's a special car.

I too prefer analog gauges and I am enjoying them in the loaner Outback from the dealer I'm driving right now. However, I don't mind a digital display as long as it's executed in a way that's easy to read at a glance. I like the display in our BRZ's and some others like the configurable displays in an Audi A4/S4 or the A3/S3. BMW's are a good example of really bad digital display's IMO.

I also agree that Subaru (or the dealers) should offer a CD option. I missed not having a disc player in the tS and now the wife’s 2024 Subaru Crostrek Wilderness.

They offer one that slots into the center console for the Outback and WRX. I wonder why they never made one for the CrossTrek?

That's slick! I would have opted for one if it was available but, the price would be around$600 CAD before taxes and install. Probably why Subaru Canada doesn’t offer it here.
