Weird clicking coming from behind engine block/transmission area

Not sure what this sound is. Just noticed it a few days ago. I can hear it fairly well within the cabin. Any suggestions for what to check would be appreciated.

update: noise is consistent now

I would guess clutch and related parts.

It essentially sounds like metal clanging against each other right now and it's super consistent. I updated the video post if that helps.

Based on where it's coming from, I would say clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, etc. The fly wheel, throw out bearing, clutch and pressure plate are always spinning so that's why it would be a consistent sound.

Otherwise, it's something much worse.

I would immediately drop the transmission and see what is going on.

I recommend one test before you pull things apart.

Does the sound go away or change when you press the clutch pedal? If so the issue is on the transmission side of the clutch. If not the issue is on the engine/bellhousing side.

It's definitely not a "it'll be fine if you leave it alone" kind of sound though.

It does not go away when I press the clutch. I'm taking it in tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it's not too bad.

Ended up being a loose bolt on the torque converter. Dealer repaired it, no charge, so big shoutout to Gillman Subaru.

I hope they're mincing words, you don't have a torque converter. Glad they fixed whatever it was regardless!
