Consumer Report Says Subaru Kicked Toyota Out Of Top Spot

Toyota no longer tops the most reliable brand rankings, according to an annual report published Thursday by Consumer Reports.
Subaru now ranks as the most reliable car brand in 2024. It's the first time the small Japanese automaker has claimed the top spot historically dominated by Toyota.
Discuss.

I can attest to the Toyota rankings. I got a Corolla expecting reliability and efficiency (because I'm a responsible dependapotamus). I've had more problems within a year with the Corolla than I did in 10 with my FRS and BRZ! And that's not problems I've caused myself. Additionally, I actually got better MPG with both my twins than I do with my corolla. I drove across Texas averaging 27-30 vs 31-34 with my BRZ on almost every trip.

All the issues with the new V6 turbo Tundra haven’t been helping either. They saw the GR86/BRZ rtv issues and said “hold my beer.”

Did they leave chips in the oil galleries, or something like that?

Yeah. Didn’t clean out well enough from all the machining on the block.
