"lack of maintenance" on a sealed part? ~18k miles and 400 autocross runs with wide sticky tires. "abuse" would be a good way to put it.

Over the weekend I installed Pedders tophats on the Trueno edition. Incredibly easy on this car, no need for a spring compressor!

Removed the sway bars, one of the end links will need to be replaced (rusty bolt). I will have to drive slowly until the links arrive to install new ones.

There is very little preload on the springs. If you remove the nut on the top of the struts whlie the car is on the ground and jack up the front end slowly, the tophats separate easily. You will have to remove one endlink to swaybar connection, then you can simply line up the strut with the new tophat and slowly lower the vehicle and start the top nut...

Installed RCE sway bars. Front 20mm dia and rear 16mm dia.
Front on hardest and rear on middle. Added camber bolts. Now, need to take to a good alignment shop. Last edited by Stonehorsw; 04-26-2024 at 10:03 PM. Reason: Add info |

On a brighter note, I finally moved on from the V601 to a 615k+ this season and somehow managed to drop nearly 2 full seconds on a 1 mile course. Insanity! |

Got a 3rd set of wheels for summer. Original plan was just to daily drive my autocross set of RE-71s on stock rims during the summer because I drive often but not much in terms of miles. But I didn't realize that these sticky tires pick up all the sand and stones and sandblast the car every time I drive around town. Super annoying and probably bad for the paint. So I had to pull the trigger on a third set.
Logical choice would be to get RPF1s for the autocross set, but since this purchase wasn't planned I just couldn't justify the price ($370 CAD per rim and no choice of color). Had to look for a more budget oriented option, and here in Canada we don't have much choice at all. After many hours of research settled on Motegi MR-147 in bronze. Couple lb lighter than stock, decent price. Offset is like 10mm less than stock, which I kinda like tbh. Fills out the arches more. For tires just went with some cheap Falkens A/S in 225/45R17 sizing. They are actually much quieter than the stock Premacies HP, which tbh I didnt like at all. Yes they have a bit more grip than your typical A/S tire, they were good to learn how to autocross but that doesn't justify the noise in my opinion. Even Bridgestone RE-71RS and my winter tires are much quieter than those things. Also they are surprisingly narrow. 215 is supposed to be a correct size for a 7.5" wide rim but even from factory it looks like the tire is too narrow and it always low key annoyed me how it looked. I know the car would look so much better lowered and inch or so and with 18" rims but I am just not willing to sacrifice driveability for the looks since this is my daily/autox car ![]() ![]() |

Installed some side markers. Unsure if I love the totally clear look but I much prefer this style LED strip light.

I like the strip light better than the JDM OEM option.
I discovered the strip light you have after buying the JDM markers. Had I taken a bit more time looking at options, I probably would have gone with what you have. |

Yeah having seen the JDM option in person, not a big fan. I might lightly tint these lights, not a huge fan of how "bright" they look
